£6bn to insulate UK’s houses and a green light for Sizewell C

  1. Was there anything re on land cheap wind turbines? Or did the nimbys win out?

… Yeah lets fix this energy crisis in a decade or three.

  2. They say about the green deal etc, that not many people took the opportunity. My home is fucking ancient and incredibly cold. So early in the year I applied for this but was refused as my home is classed as a C rating. Which is fucking impossible as the windows are shit, no cavities for wall insulation and no insulation in the loft whatsoever and the downstairs flooring is poured concrete, so all flooring and walls sucks the heat out and the rest disappears out the loft. They ended the letter with ‘it’s not all bad, the good news is you’re already, currently enjoying the benefits’. Like what? Are you taking the piss?

  3. Good.

Insulation and efficient boilers make sense. Had we invested heavily in nuclear 10 or 15 years ago we wouldn’t be in this mess. This is a sound investment in our future.

  4. Remember how everyone was moaning about insulate Britain blocking roads and people were using the old “people won’t support them if they annoy the public”, the same thing they say about JSO. It worked didn’t it.

  5. Actual sensible policies.

One of the sad things is New Labour were spending money on insulating houses, but the scheme was cancelled with Cameron getting rid of the ‘green crap’, and the process was stopped.

It would have saved the country billions had the scheme been continued, but it’s good they’ve come to their senses.

  6. I expect everyone who complained about Insulate Britain will be refusing any assistance insulating their homes.

  7. This is nothing new I used to own and run an insulation business for 30 years insulated 10s of thousands of homes for zero cost

The schemes are still running today. The real issue was always soild wall homes they are very hard to insulate and can only be clad. Cladding does not have the best reputation right now.

Unless they are willing to fund soild wall install and new boilers and or solar it’s totally nothing new

Want the real kicker it’s 100% funded by the energy companies. Don’t feel bad for them they where selling the carbon savings on the open market still making money

This has zero to do with blocking the road. It’s a headline grabber

  8. In 2010, Labour had earmarked £6Bn for Domestic Renewables. This was to cover a whole range of generation and insulation projects. The money got, largely, diverted into insulation. By 2014 it was all gone. Paid out to subcontractors of the Energy Companies for substandard insulation of the kind that killed at Grenfell. But the Energy Industry never fell out with insulation. It does two things: first it does not affect the price of domestic energy one little bit: you still have to pay to buy energy; second, it squeezes out funding for generation which would actually lower the dependence of the UK on imported fuels for generation. On the one hand – insulation protects profits – on the other hand eliminating domestic generation compromises national security.

It is the perfect scam as everyone – including me – can see the value of a well insulated building. It is a pearl clutcher’s triumph.

  9. Sorry if this is a really dumb question – but do households have to apply somewhere for this insulation scheme? who is the “taskforce” involved in this?

I’m gonna be renovating my 1st floor in the new year so would be planning on adding more insulation up in the loft as well.

  10. 2025 after the election so this is a meaningless PR policy announcement, so clearly its working as its one of the main stories being covered over the detail that WILL be hitting us
