It isn’t just social housing. There are more examples than I could share about private renters having to live in dire situations and nothing gets done.
This is a problem of the rich not giving a sh*t about those less fortunate.
Hell, people these days cannot even afford to rent or get on the housing market.
Nothing in this situation is unique to social housing tenants. Plenty of private landlords are absolute fuckwits and have properties infested with black mold.
Does anybody have any recommendations for how to best tackle mould? I’m in private rented accommodation and the ceiling of my bathroom is crawling with it. Our landlord refuses to address the situation beyond “*try showering with the bathroom door open*” (we already do).
Should I just get up there with some gloves and a sponge soaked in bleach? Do I dab at it? Wipe? Is there a better option?
This isn’t about social housing, its about tenant laws and how little we get compared to what we pay for. Landlords, whether council or private don’t give a fuck and they are not obliged to give a fuck because UK Laws are so anti-renter.
Good thing it’s near impossible to build more, superior, cleaner housing because of the Town and County Planning Act
What’s even worse in this case, is the association fobbed them off and blamed their ethnic practices as being the cause, such as cooking and even ritual washing – so when the family blamed racism they are right it seems.
