We definitely need a livable wage as the rising cost of electricity eats up the wages of every bloke in this country.
How do you think the rest of the country feels London’s bubble has to pop at some point.
This might be controversial.
As a country we have to be honest here and say that the minimum wage should perhaps be regional. Yes that means that it’d be higher in London and lower in the Welsh Valleys for example, I’m sure it won’t go down well. However, there could be an upside for the poorer areas it might encourage companies to set-up there.
Edit: I actually meant minimum instead of living
Lol, workers are struggling across the country, Londoners need to get their heads out of their asses.
Londoners can’t be struggling too hard if a lot of them are buying up houses in rural areas, thus making it harder for locals to get on the property ladder.
The COUNTRY is struggling for a living wage.
North west dweller here.
i earn £24,000 a year. (so ABOVE minimum wage)
Take home about £1800 a month.
How far does £1800 get you these days when you are paying, energy bills, weekly shop, Mortgage, broadband, Petrol, NI, Water rates, paying into a pension, clothing your child. AND.. god forbid, Wanting to have a SMALL treat like a pint on a Saturday afternoon.
Can you survive? sure. But thats not saving anything to work towards home improvements. Appliance breakdown funds. Decorating your bedroom that’s not been done for.. 10+ years and has wallpaper falling off the wall.
Let me tell you.. NOT VERY FAR..
“but.. £24,000 is vastly under the national average wage” i hear people cry. Guess what, some people have to do those jobs. I jump on job search sites and 99% of the postings are for around this amount of money, UNLESS i opt to travel for hours per day commuting.. which then all potential wage increases are eaten up into commute costs..
From the north, London can suck a dick regarding wages
How about a full organised evacuation of everyone from London. Leave that expensive hell hole and settle in the many other cities where the gap between living and pay is smaller.
We absolutely need a living wage, but a bit of equality across the nation would be nice. The capital is given so much compared to the rest of the country. As geography goes it’s ridiculous.
Oh good. Another thread with an opportunity for northerners to bash London.
