Labour leader Keir Starmer plans crackdown on Just Stop Oil protesters if he wins the next election

  1. He basically had my vote by default. Why is he trying to throw that away with this kind of stupid bullshit?

  2. More centred left policy.

Blair won multiple terms using this method. Nothing shocking going on here.

What a twisting world tories giving people on benefits 10% rise

    Labour getting tough on protesters.

  3. Three cheers for the UK! All of the big problems are solved, and now all that’s left to do is stop those pesky kids from protesting 👏

  4. Wouldn’t be surprised if a new right wing party wins the next election. It’s clear that right wing parties are on the rise in Europe and I think with the economy crisis and the lack of trust in the government in key issues like immigration would just make it more likely.

  5. Or he could just say something like “I think their methods are stupid, but the thing they’re protesting about is a real and serious problem that is harming the British public and costing them thousands of pounds per year. My Labour government will take major steps to fix the problem that has been neglected by a succession of failed Tory governments, and then the protestors will have no need to resort to this sort of nonsense”.

I want the Tories to lose so badly, but I swear every time there’s an open goal Starmer just hoofs it into the crowd instead.

  6. I get that he’s doing shit like this to appeal to the centre / right, but fuck me is it depressing to see the leader of our main “left wing” party coming out with shit like this.

I don’t want to see any complaining when the left don’t show up to vote for him after all this.

I’m tempted to just vote for whichever candidate supports an alternate voting system, so we can be done choosing between the lesser of two evils.

  7. For everyone who’s against this line I don’t know anyone who’s with Just Stop Oil IRL since the recent stunts with throwing paint on art. There is no symbolism there, and you know who’s gotta clean that mess up, the people they need to win over.

Just Stop Oil has a good message but disrupt the wealthy peoples lives. Taking aim at art which are usually in charity based museums which are open to the public is just ridiculous.

  8. We’re about 18 months out from an election. At the rate Starmer is conceding policy ground to Conservatives, I wonder if voting for his Labour Party will make any noticeable difference in how government runs by that time.

  9. Got my vote Keir. Good to see he’s taking Labour back toward electable and sustainable centre left territory rather than crackpot far left student politics.

  10. You want to do anything to tackle Oil companies that are literally destroying the planet for profit?

    Nope.

You gonna punish the people who are risking everything attempting to stop this?

    Yeah.

Wonderful, thanks Labour. Dystopian future it is then I guess.
