  1. Personal opinion here but I think it looks like shit. What’s with these modern architects are forcing modern looking structures upon older forms of architecture? Pardon me for sounding like a boomer but if you’d rather create modern structures, then do so seperately. It just seems to clash too much. First Het Steen and now this, Antwerp seems to develop an uninspiringly mediocre way of modernising or amending their old, iconic structures.

  7. What’s up with modern architecture in our country? When traveling I’m often positively surprised by it, but in Belgium it’s almost inevitably the must substandard crap imaginable

Het definitieve ontwerp zal er wel wat anders uitzien want dit lijkt me niet erg stabiel op die hoogte, maar het idee om zoals bij het Havenhuis een glazen aanbouw op/naast het gebouw te zetten vind ik wel leuk. En nog beter dat het gebouw een culturele invulling krijgt, en niet gewoon kantoren of appartementen waar alleen multimiljonairs kunnen wonen. Merk ik daar trouwens bomen op, op de bovenste verdieping? Een soort serre dus? Een wintertuin? Zalig!

  14. Makes me think of Dutch office buildings where every wall needs to be a bit skewed. This building is pure and simple modernism, don’t put something diagonal on top and next to it, that’s just fucking with the intent and pure egotrip, as you can see from the left bank panorama: look, my dick is a little bit bigger!

  25. Typeert nog maar het soort van elitisme dat er heerst bij architecten en publieke ontwerpers. Zij zijn Picasso, en de wereld (van deconnoisseurs) moet vooral zien wat voor geraffineerde kunstenaars zijwel niet zijn. Interesseert hen geen hol dat mensen gehecht zijn aan eengebouw of wat de impact is in de omgeving. Als dit uitgevoerd wordt zalhet wel weer goed voor zijn voor tal van euforische commentaren in dearchitectuurboekjes en het zal wel weer architectuurprijzen binnenhalengeorganiseerd in kringen van mensen die vooral goed zijn in huneigen tefeliciteren met hun verlichte geest en verfijnde smaak. Dat (nog maareens) een Antwerps monument omzwachteld wordt in pretentieuzehersenspinsels is immers een visie dat enkel maar een achterlijke plebs zou aanhangen…
