Also, to fellow Romanians, please share this to folks that keep saying that Ceaușescu used to be sooo much better at building stuff.
This is a national shame. Now add a graph with km of bew railway lines…looks even worse.
I hope trains and public transport are getting as much attention?
Oh, another note.
We have projects for greener stuff, too, like railways. It’s just that those taken even more advanced administrative capacity, so they’ll take a really long time to get going. Our railway management decayed a lot after 1989 and it’s trying to get moving again.
The focus so far was on highways because we had almost 0 highways (only 113km for a country with the more people than the Netherlands, and the Netherlands has about 3 500km….) and we badly needed them as regular roads are just too slow and dangerous for inter-city travel.
But I imagine this decade will slowly turn into the train decade, especially towards the end. There are already a few railway related projects planned.
