Trying to move home with my cat and Delta Airlines hits me with this

  1. Act as an influencer and aer Lingus will let you fly with a cat/dog in cabin.

I wish I was joking… Same rules don’t apply for us peasants it seems.

The influencers are abusing the support animal criteria and getting away with it.. When called out, some just block and won’t open their mouths as to how they did it.. But that’s how. That’s the only way the animals can go in the cabin. Hard to get that unless you’ve the right contacts… So basically normal people, they have to go under the plane..

  2. Try phoning them. The chat lines arent really helpful for adding pets in cabin. Youll have better luck talking to a human.

  3. My guess:

Many of their flights don’t stop in Dublin, some continue on.

So if the final destination of enough of their Dublin bound flights is the UK they apply the stricter rule to Ireland as well.

    Complete shot in the dark.

  4. Is this from the US I assume? Can you let me know how you get on if so. Planning to move back from the US to Ireland in about a years time and was curious on this process

  5. FFS this is the most annoying thing, it’s one thing people not knowing but if it’s encompassed into a business policy that’s taking the biscuit. I was coming home from a trip to London last month and I ended up being caught for a survey at Gatwick, first question where are you from, “Ireland” nope they didn’t have it every other country under the sun but no ireland or Republic of ireland just the UK so its not hard to guess what happened there. Hope you get your cat home with you.

  6. Why Ireland doesn’t make more fuss about its Independence Day like other countries. Many (but not all!) people know when Bastille Day is. They know when American Independence Day is.

I say this as an Australian who had to explain in painfully small words to a lad from Essex working in Ford Warranty Customer Service that no, Dublin wasn’t in Wales and yes, it’s called the Republic of Ireland for a reason.

But yes OP try KLM or look at a seat in a private hire – if you’re female, I’ve see posts in relocating with pets in Girls Love Travel on FB.

  7. Call them. It’s probably to do with the fact Ireland shares a common travel area with UK (not that we are part of UK). We aren’t members of the Schengen Area which is probably the confusion.

  8. Book with KLM and fly through Schiphol. KLM allow cats in the cabin and are generally easy to work with. My friend moved back and forth with her cat and dog from NA and Europe a few times.

  9. I got this when I was trying to organise my E111 health insurance abroad a few years ago. British woman on the phone was adamant that Ireland was part of the UK and not in Europe. It was such a weird conversation, she was convinced I was trying to gaslight her.

  10. Not sure where your coming from but I flew from Toronto direct to Dublin with my dog in the seat with me. Delta, AA, etc don’t really do this. They say they do but I was stuck in red tape hell when trying. As you seem to be in the us, fly to Toronto and then direct to Dublin is my suggestion.

  11. “still apart” means the **exact opposite** of “still a part of”, and the misuse of it is one of my grammar pet peeves.

This Delta person is unintentionally correct, we are apart of the UK, but they don’t mean it that way and they’re an idiot.

(but I should mention I have no issue with non-native speakers, I’m just annoyed at the clearly wrong info)

  12. Are you in the States? You can get a support animal licence for any cat or dog as long as your willing to pay. Its not a government body over there, just companies selling them.

  13. Ya, you are gonna have trouble with this. My aunt always brings her dog home and she has to fly into France with her and drive over. The dog is classed as an emotional support dog as well and has not found a way to directly fly into Ireland. My cousin as well was unable to fly her cat from Sweden to Ireland and had to drive her.

  14. A friend had the same problem but traveling to new York.

Ended up getting the boat instead. Took a few days but was way easier.

  15. Maybe this Delta employee needs some education on the history of Ireland and the UK? Either that or the employee is British and is trying to wind OP up.

  16. Some airlines have Ireland listed as Northern Ireland and conclude it applies same rules as UK. Contact Dublin airport’s related unit via mail about how dogs should be brought and show Delta airlines that mail.

  17. Pets in cabin is strict and only one type of animal is allowed in the cabin. So if there is someone in the cabin with a cat – that means all dogs have to be in the cargo hold.
Its not so bad in the hold. They are placed in a special heated area, just make sure you let the crew and the pilots know that you have pets in the hold so they will turn on the heating.

  18. Quick edit: yes, it would have been more correct to say “has operated in its current form since the 1940s” over “independent”. However, I doubt that would have been understood, and I had just spent over seven hours on the phone talking to agents from various airlines. I responded quickly and without much thought because I hoped for resolution sooner rather than later.

  19. I’m allergic to cats, so I’m actually relieved and happy that you can’t take your pet in the cabin – my eyes and nose would swell, and I’d be out of action for a week, even with the steroid inhaler.

  20. I had a Lufthansa agent insist that Ireland is part of the UK. Tried to teach her geography for a minute, to no avail.
