I don’t know who needs to see this but….

  1. Genuine question, why do ppl give out so much about ppl putting their front fogs on or spots as they use to be called years ago? Personally I don’t have them on unless foggy but I could never see the agro behind it. They’re relatively low strength wise so it’s not like they’re blinding. I also would be very sensitive to light but fogs for some reason don’t do anything in comparison to other light sources. Just wondering if there is a reason I’m missing other than, “well they’re called fog lights so you are only allowed use them in the fog”. Despite some cars having them come on when you turn your dims on.

  2. The wanker on the N18 between Limerick and Ennis this evening pulling a trailer with one fog light and carrying the body of a tractor.

If you’re here. Hi. I saw you. We all fucking saw you.

  3. I think in the past when headlights were dull as shite, fog lights (which were brighter) could dazzle other drivers.

However nowadays with Xenon and LED matrix headlights the dog lights don’t seem anywhere as bad.

Still though, I think the lads that keep their fog lights on do so in a vain attempt to make their shitbox look cooler.

  4. If I overtake someone with a fog light on unnecessarily, I “flash” my fog light at them. They may not know it’s on.

I am much more annoyed by the seemingly copious amounts of drivers in low visibility or in the dark with just daytime running lights on. That is genuinely very dangerous and they are totally oblivious. DRL should not be an option. It’s pointless. Just have the rear lights on too, I wish the DRL feature was banned.

  5. I don’t go into the boards motor forum anymore because of feckers harping on about this kind of shite, now they’re doing it here as well. Gah!!

  6. My girlfriend was asking me the other morning how to turn the fog lights on. I was half asleep so just told her its the big red triangle button 🔺️. She ended up going the whole N7 into Dublin with her hazards on. 😅

  7. “There not fog lights lad, there spots. Help you see more of the road like”

This was a real response from someone when I told them you can’t drive with fog lights on.

Honestly if you’re looking at the 4 feet in front of your bonnet that fog lights illuminate we’ve a bigger problem with driving skills than I thought

  8. It is a done thing by some people that if someone is tailgating them, they will turn the fog lights on and that usually gets them to back up a few car lengths. Same is true for cars blinding them from behind, usually SUVs.

  9. I have a Ford Mondeo. The bloody thing turns on one fog light by itself when I’m turning. Turning left. The left fog light pops on when I turn the steering wheel. Turning right. The right fog light comes on.

Now that probably makes a small amount of sense in a country with fairly straight roads. But on Irish country roads?? Anyone in front of me must think I’m flashing them on every bend.

  10. I’ve never once been blinded by an oncoming foglight? Rear fogs, obnoxious aftermarket LEDs, and auto high beams are annoying yes but what’s wrong with fogs? They’re literally the same bulb as your dipped beam?

  11. My favourite type of knuckle dragging, mouth breathing retard is the people who have their fogs on and only have their park lights on, not dipped beams. A close second is the tractor drivers who feel the need to have overly bright LED lights all over their tractor on full blast all the time. I’ve no problem with the main headlights being LED, but you don’t need 10,000,000,000 lumens blazing back at the cars behind you.

  12. Most front fog lights aren’t actually any brighter than your headlights. You can test this by turning them on when you’re parked.

People get confused, because the purpose of rear fog lights is to be brighter than your tail lights and pierce through the fog.

The purpose of front fog lights is to illuminate different areas around the front and side of the road to make it easier to see in fog.

As someone else mentioned, a single front fog light is programmed to activate when turning on many cars (generally at low speed). It’s actually very helpful regarding visibility of objects on the ground near your car.

  13. There’s a special place in hell for people who have them on all the time. I see some folk claim they’re not blinding but that’s only when there’s ambient light like in towns. In the dark countryside they are really bad, particularly on narrow roads.

  14. Anyone notice some newer cars have really fucking bright lights, I honestly can’t tell if they have their full beam on or not. Really frustrating and dangerous af on country roads.

  15. I assume people were simply mistakenly putting them on, I routinely see people having them during the daylight hours too.

  16. I passed some kind of tricked out Ice cream van or ambulance on the M1 last week with a full on floodlight mounted above the rear door and switched on. Stupid beyond belief.

  17. Was driving through knockcroghery about this time 2 years ago, unreal fog, we were stopped at the rail crossing, just one car in front, none behind, left my rear fog lights on so you could see me in good time.

2 or 3 minutes pass, i see a car coming, i wait til he stops, turn the rear lights off when all of a sudden hes at my window and he is exceptionally frantic, i lowered the window a wee bit and i says “are ya alright?”

“Please turn your fog lights off, i cant see, im behind you i cant see, i cant see, i cant see” and while maintaining eye contact i just put the window up and he scurried away.

Anyway thats my experience with fog lights.
10/10 read if you got this far.
