If I stand for election on a platform of racism, puppy stomping, and the confiscation of soft toys from children and I’m elected, then that’s on the voters. It’s the whole point of democracy actually.

It’s this “they voted for us, so they give us permission to do as we like” attitude that has been expressed, especially by Priti Patel.
But they used Cambridge analytica to literally hack people’s minds. To turn around and say we have free will so this is what we want is astonishing. It’s like a date rapist drugging a women into sex, then claiming she gave consent in court.
They don’t believe in free will. So nor should you. Your consent (if you voted for these people) was manufactured. And it does not give them the right to do whatever they please.
But it’s a bit of a slippery slope one. From there not too far to people should have the right to elect to execute all the Muslims which…no.
It does pay to have some controls on democracy to stop the potential for absolute psychos to win a lucky victory and absolutely wreck things, such as for instance by doing away with democracy via democracy.
I wish they wouldn’t but I suspect those who do wish I would not vote for what they might call ‘woke’ MPs or councillors.

If I didn’t know better, I’d almost believe people felt an obligation to elect racists and misogynists.
This is why we need proportional representation, at the moment such people do not have a voice and become far more dangerous as a result. Bring in proportional representation then both right and left wing extremists will discover they are only 1-2% of the population as opposed to a much larger group who are entirely without representation due to gerrymandering.
And yet the “Kill Tory Scum” party isn’t allowed to stand.
