Department loses battle to make Public Services Card mandatory for all public services

  1. Absolutely delighted – a total waste of money – invasion of privacy – private companies keeping biometric data

EDIT: The new card went out to tender in Feb 2018 before being awarded to
Security Card Concepts – a Wicklow-based company formerly known as
Biometric Card Services and the producer of the original card – in July
    of that year.

  2. This needs to come in, time to move on people you give more detail to Facebook.

The day of paper work and calling into offices and getting this and that signed are gone and cost tax money to keep running. Legislate, bring the card in and move online.

  3. What bothers the most about the card is that it doesn’t have my date of birth on it. I used it to get my driver’s license and then after I passed my test I had no other use of it so now it resides on the shelf. Such a painstaking and unnecessary waste of time getting these too

  4. Wanted to update my address on my driving license but needed to go get a PSC. Such a needless waste for more paperwork to get a card for a simple update

  5. Brilliant. It was an identity card by stealth and the way the data was shared amongst other Gov. depts was a blatant GDPR breach. Very glad to see this, took long enough!

  6. My biggest issue with it is actually getting the card. The places that do them are open like two hours a day on random weekdays with no times to cater to working people.

  7. Great, me and my wife have only been waiting 2 months for an appointment to get a PSC to verify our MyGovID accounts. Stupid system altogether

  8. My partner’s been waiting over six months to get an appointment so he can book a driving test. I need one to log into revenue and log my new employer details so I don’t get emergency taxed after coming off PUP. Farcical stuff.

  9. I’m left wondering who thought this was a good idea and why did they think this was a hill to die on. It’s such an intrusive idea and, while it give great information on who’s using public services, it really doesn’t give much information on the population as a whole, so it’s effectively useless.

  10. I wss stupid enough to not renew my passport a few years back before it ran out and waited too long to renew it. When I eventually tried to renew it, I was told I needed to get when one of these first. In order to get a PSC I was told I needed to provide a valid passport as ID…i needed a valid passport to obtain a PSC card and to obtain a valid passport i needed to have a PSC Card for which I needed a passport for which I needed a PSC Card for which I needed a Passport…you get the picture.

Booked a meeting in intreo, brought along all other relevant documents like they asked if we didn’t have ID. They copied the ones they wanted said they’d send it off for review. A month passed and I had still received no card. I then made another appointment and brought the same documents (made to wait half an hour outside some room for the guy I had a meeting with, eventually knocked on the door of the room and it turned out he wasn’t told about this meeting). Was told my documents didn’t provide much information and it was up to whoever issued the card to decide if the provided information was sufficient. I was told to give it 10 working days and if the card hadn’t come they hadn’t issued it and that they wouldn’t be telling me otherwise if they had issued it or not and at that point there was nothing more they could do.

Thankfully it did come in the post but fucking hell. I’m sure there’s been those who weren’t as lucky as me and have been completely screwed over by this bureacratic shitshow.
