Was in the UK during the week, like a different planet
Ah yes and sure weren’t we told they were only for a few weeks back in July.
The plan is no exit. Downvotes can’t hide the truth
Do we need one? I imagine they’ll go when no longer necessary
As things change, it’s not easy to give people a solid exist plan.
Like a river changes course, the plan must stay fluid ?
I think that sums it up, in terms of nature for me.
Will see in a few years.
I think ppl are moving on from Covid now

Vaccine passes have just become a tool for that weird proportion of vaccinated people who think being vaccinated means they are some sort of Messiah to feel morally superior over a very tiny minority of unvaxxed anti-vax people (which they completely blow the number of out of proportion). We have 90% of the population vaccinated, and even regardless of that, needing ID and a pass to do basic everyday things should absolutely not be allowed to become a normal thing.
Why would anyone want it to go away? I’m quite comfortable knowing I won’t be interacting with plague rat murderers ever again.
You don’t need an exit plan if you don’t plan to exit.
It’s so weird when people talk about long term covid plans. It’s an uncontrolled virus. Even our best vaccines don’t completely stop it’s transmission, even though it greatly reduces chances of death and hospitalization. It’s not like we are forcing everyone to get vaccinated anyway. And you have new variants popping up every few months or so.
How can any country have any long term plans?
Global pandemics are tricky.
Did anyone actually believe this was a temporary measure? They’ll be kept as long as people allow it and the kids are next
Makes sense considering our govts strategy has been to be as reactive as possible rather than put consideration and thought into all of these decisions. They’ve panicked and blundered between each piece of emergency legislation.
Most of the comments on this post are utter baws.
Our government put sunset clauses on most if not all of the legislation around emergency powers. Not the act of some tyrannical dictatorship.
The vast majority including those in government have been far too optimistic regarding how long this is going to go on and so communicated and planned on that basis and when reality smacked them in the face have had to change position.
The fact is this is the worst pandemic we have had since modern medicine began and we have dealt with it fairly terribly. Over 17 million dead and who knows how many with long term conditions.
The good news is it’s getting better. Better vaccines, better treatments and if it is the case that the latest variant is more transmissible but less deadly all the better.
This will end. Not next year but soon we’ll all be able to uninstall the app and plan for a better future. When depends on variants, how everyone behaves and the distribution of vaccines and therapeutics.
No one knows when the endgame is but let’s hope it’s in the next year or two and until then follow the guidance and take care of each other.
It may not be as obvious now but this pass is here to stay. Especially amongst EU members, it’s a new passport system, almost like a social passport when you can distill COVID from it as a social technology. Considering Schengen and free movement this provides the same but with more ability to monitor those crossing borders whether they’re eU nationals or not. It also locks out those who do not have the sufficient pass to enter, just like a keycard with biometri data on it.
Tech is changing a lot of our world, and to continue this a pass or a digital ID is needed because our current I’d systems are not working when you consider how our social tech is going.
I think the title should be based on what’s our post COVID strategy with this new pass or is system in place.
We’re moving toward a more centralised way of European governance and to mandate this governance means we all become digital citizens.
Marshall McLuhan spoke on these terms in the 60s and 70s, very interesting. Didn’t mention passes but brought up the subject of digital citizenship.
TLDR; there’s no exit strategy because this pass is here to stay and will develop into a live id system like our passports but with real-time data.
