Hi all, in a antique shop in Edinburgh, Scotland. I came across what (from Google translate) I think is a lottery ticket from a university in Iceland in 1944. But I am unsure. Would any native speakers have any information they could share? Or point me in the direction of any icelandic history sub reddits. This has really intriguied me!

Yes.
That’s a cool little thing. Indeed, a ticket for the university lottery. You can equip your translation app of choice and peruse [hhi.is](https://hhi.is) for all the info you could ever want.
That ticket has won [19 times since 1998](https://www.hhi.is/happdr%C3%A6ttismi%C3%B0ar/athuga-vinning/). I wonder if the same person still has that number.
Rough Translation:

**Lottery University of Iceland**
Drawing will occur June 10th 1944.
Should a prize be drawn on this ticket the owner is mandated to purchase a 1/4 part from lot 5-10.
*Magnús Jónsson – Pétur Sigurðsson*
Renewal for 5th round 24th of June – 5th of July 1944 in exchange for this ticket.

In the corner is the price, which seems to have been 12 Krónur with a renewable price of 3kr for the next round.
