Can confirm. They’re a real luxury. Madrid is a gem for metro, hi speed long distance, and medium distance commuter rail cercanías.
In the Summer we were interrailing and we went to Barcelona and the connections to madrid/lissabon were so terrible that we decided to just go the other way instead. Maybe these trains/connections are not covered by the interrail-pass but it was kinda a bad expierience.
Visited Spain a few weeks ago. Trains were amazing. 300km/hr through the Spanish countryside on a comfortable train, what is not to love?
Too bad that the EU doesn’t care to make these across Europe.
