No ban for greyhound racing after animal welfare boss visits Scots race track

  1. This *should be* an animal sport that *should be* basically cruelty free. It’s not like greyhounds don’t appreciate a good sprint (and then a sofa).

But it isn’t. Just check out [Shawfield’s record](https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/death-15-greyhound-dogs-sparks-22908399) as an example (some [more info](https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/23026716.bid-ban-greyhound-racing-scotland-amid-cruelty-concerns/)).

It had its chance to reform, failed, and now needs to be banned. Maybe in 3 months it will be.

One wonders about horse racing as well, that is also far from cruelty free. Although I guess the kinds of people who rub shoulders at those events have the ears of governments.

  2. I think demographics will be the death of greyhound racing, i remember a video a few years ago with Ian Lavery (labour mp) trying to get more people into greyhound racing and training, he says the average age of a greyhound trainer is 60.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes unviable sooner rather than later.

I’d still rather see a ban though, i have two greyhounds, and I love them to pieces, and racing isn’t a life they deserve
