Expats / immigrants / temporary residents … whatever you want to call yourselves …

Please understand: good wine increases in value if stored properly . Some men and some women age well and therefore may be more desirable with age . Money earning interest increase in value due to compound interest (assuming interest rate > inflation).

Your extremely valuable possessions acquired from IKEA or your Chinese washing machine do NOT increase in value with time. Therefore, when selling your stuff , understand you can’t add a markup of 30 per cent to it.

Case in point in screenshots .

Similarly … if you bought tiny studio in Hollerich built in the 60s of only 30sqm it’s market price is not 620k because that is the amount you need to buy a palace in your home country.

Thank you for your understanding .

  1. I love these.

When I first moved here, I bought all new, because the IKEA stuff that was “only” 400 years old was a whopping 1% cheaper than something brand new.

I sell stuff because I want it gone. So I price it accordingly. Always gone the same day

  2. And this is how I’m missing good deals.
When I finally think about looking second hands I see those … then think “we’ll, what’s the point”. And miss the good sellers.

I’m mainly looking at bikes and music gears, always amazed seeing people listing stuff at the same price as new while the thing is readily available …
For bike stuff, used pretty much means 30% or more off …

  3. Sometimes i have the impresion, that if the wind blows a bit stronger ikea will be incorporated by Luxembourg by mistake and we wouldn’t be able to tell the differrence.

And then i read this shit on facebook mp.

  4. Afraid you are wrong about the studio in Hollerich. If it’s not over 1/2 a million yet it will soon be. Bubble bursts don’t really touch Luxembourg. In 2008 real estate prices went in a nosedive everywhere, here they just grew a bit slower.

  5. I’ve seen used Nespresso machines posted for 150 Euro. They are practically free if you buy them with a bunch of cups online.

  6. Haha this is gold!

A bit off topic but funny story: one time I was selling a video game on FB, 10€.
A guy contacted me to negotiate a classic 90% discount. I refused… I even proposed 5€, he said no. He wanted to pay it 1€.
The guy argued and said that “because of you, my little daughter won’t get a present for her birthday”. Wow nice try but it was still a no.
Next day the guy contacted me again and a said that he’ll take it for 10, the price is okay.
He came with a Maserati at the meeting point. His watch was almost as expensive as my house. Good for him but please dude you’re talking about a 10€ game for your daughter….

And I won’t tell you the time I’ve been insulted on FB because I refused to deliver at the buyer’s house an item I was given away for free.

PS: the game was mostly listed at 20€ on Marketplace, leboncoin, etc…

  7. You’re comparing an 8kg washing machine to a 7kg one… during Black Friday deals… on Amazon. They evidently didn’t pay the same price for it.
