> BERLIN, Nov 25 (Reuters) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the number of German companies that have ignored the risks of depending too heavily on the Chinese market was remarkable and stressed the need for diversification, in an interview with Focus magazine on Friday.
> “The importance of the Chinese market needs no explanation,” he said, but the goal is not to be dependent on any one market.
> “I am therefore surprised at how dependent some companies have made themselves on individual markets and have completely ignored the risks,” Scholz told the magazine.

> Such dependencies show Germany needs to be more active in raw materials such as lithium and cobalt. “Even in mining, we can’t afford to be comfortable any more,” added the chancellor.
> In early November, Scholz became the first Group of Seven (G7) leader to visit China since the COVID-19 pandemic, where he bluntly complained about access to the Chinese market.
> He made the trip while facing criticism from within his own coalition about relations with Beijing. He has tried to balance securing a level playing field for European companies with shedding Germany’s heavy reliance on the Chinese market.

Wants to sell a large chunk of Germanys biggest harbour to China even though all his ministers say it’s a bad idea.
“Oh shit fam China is owning most of our companies? I didn’t even know!”
Wow ! Are you surprised by dependence on Russian oil and gas?
What a two-faced imbecile.
Surprised, yet he is working towards selling Hamburg harbor to China. What a strange discrepancy…
Well, he is responsible for the Hamburg port deal with China so why is Scholz surprised ?
Germany needs cheap Russian energy and raw materials to power its industry, and it needs the Chinese market to sell its products. If Germany wants to be a rich country, it has to accept these dependencies and do business.
If a random redditor from across the ocean has it figured out, not sure why Scholz is surprised.
Maybe he just cant remember things … again.
So far this sub has managed to avoid references to a character with a similar sounding name in a 1960’s U.S. situation comedy but at this point…
He’s still surprised by the Russian gas dependence too. Who could see these things?
Olaf simply can’t remember the last 20 years. It’s kinda his thing.
Former vice chancellor and financial minister, ladies and gentlemen.
He just fucking noticed.
How can you arrive at the head of a government without knowing your country main trade partner ?
Germans: can you please explain why you voted for this complete imbecile?
Like: „funny how y‘all ran your mouths yet got worse deals for your own harbours“ surprised…
He is defo the worst chancellor. Only acts if he is forced, then forgets about it and hides behind an aura of pure boredom.
