So the logic is that one sex has their performance in their job unavoidably and temporarily negatively impacted at a certain age.
Therefore it is a good thing to show solidarity for members of that sex for members of the other sex in that job to simulate the symptoms that cause that drop in performance.
The job in question is protecting the public from criminals, counter-terrorism and providing support for the victims of terrible loss or crime etc.
I think it’s fair to accuse this circumstance as being an inappropriate ‘woke stunt’.
>former Scotland Yard chief superintendent Phil Flower
Sounds like an ass
Imagine what kind of arsehole you need to be to criticise a guy in a leadership position for trying to gain a greater understanding of and learn to empathise with 50% of the population he’s there to represent.
Why not give him his current rank, Assistant Commissioner Matt Jukes. Head of Counter Terrorism Policing UK
As a woman, yes, it’s again, annoying that for half the population to understand / believe us, only when a man feels the heat of hot flushes do other men go “ohh it must be true then” why didn’t they believe us women in the first place? However, I don’t think it’s a reason to get angry at him, that’s just the way things are as usual, but it still should be highlighted.
Maybe I’m missing something here – what is there to apologise for?
Or is it another case of people looking for stuff to be offended by?
“Arrest and lock up criminals” eh, Phil Flowers?
How about, investigate crimes, gather evidence, identify suspects and arrest them on reasonable suspicion, refer them to and liaise with the CPS if there is a reasonable prospect of a successful prosecution, and if there is a successful prosection, at that point (and only at that point) do you have a criminal.
Why are people having a go at him for this? what a bunch of clowns
Phil Flower really sounds like a delicate little petal; it must be that time of the month.
Ironically, the idiots complaining about his wearing the vest have just signal-boosted the act – and thus awareness – way beyond what Juke’s simple wearing of the vest could have, while showing themselves to be archaic and closed-minded in the process.
Fancy it being the Daily Heil that had a whinge about it. I’m shocked (he lied).
As a woman, that is so cool that he did this. I’m glad he won’t apologise. Badass
Imagine this being the biggest issue in your life to get excited about?
I think that all kids should have to experience this in school, as part of whatever they call sex education these days.
I’m female. I never understood what these damn things are like and how horrible they can be until cancer treatment started them — and continues to give them to me. I’m going to have them for ten years or however long I remain on cancer medication. It’s not fun. Until you’ve experienced them you don’t realise how debilitating they can be.
Are there people out there that really think this guy couldn’t wear a vest and fight crime? Batman has been doing that for years!
Former yard chief Mr. Flower: “it a woke stunt, it’s simple really; arrest and lock up criminals”
Yeah and if the met and yards recent track record was to be looked at, they are not doing too good a job at that either, so let the guy try to broaden his perspectives a bit.
I saw the mail headline about this and my eyes rolled so much I now can see behind me.
Policeman wears vest for a bit. So what?!
Be terrible to have increased levels of understanding of what other people might be experiencing
You’re meant to dismiss them and focus on yourself like any good Daily Mail reader.
Thank god the guy criticising him is a “former” high ranking police officer. Old fashioned, out of touch, misogynist, and fairly disgusting. And well done to a current high ranking police officer who is attempting to experience at least some of what it’s like to be a menopausal woman. About time this conversation was had, it’s hard enough for the 30 or so years that precede it but the menopause almost cost me my marriage because neither I nor my husband understood what was happening to me. Thankfully 12 years on and HRT and we are through the worst and still going strong.
not woke. then says he can’t “mansplain’ the menopause”. sigh.
raise awareness yes. use shitty phrases like ‘mansplain’? please don’t.
This is from the Daily Mail via itv. Click bait reporting.
If any human is ever empathetic and does anything for someone else you’ll find the right wingers show up to complain about it being woke.
Well done to him for trying to put himself in the position of a woman of certain age to see how it effects them. He’s not being woke ,he’s being decent .
Why do we care what a bunch of retired old fucks think
Met Police spokesman: “it’s a woke stunt, Met Officers would be pinching women’s backsides, gawping at their tits like real men, and sharing up-skirt photos with lewd comments on their WhatsApp group”
Edit: Typo
It’s not really something he needs to apologise for, but it does make me think “what a bellend”
Speaking as a woman who’s been through the
menopause, I can say that, as far as working to prevent crime and protect the community, this officer wearing this vest is not going to have ANY detrimental effect on those core functions. Good grief, does the Daily Mail *honestly* think that its readers are so incredibly stupid that they think that the chief constable is only going to be able to look into equality within his own force OR be able to do his job. ? He can’t possibly do both things at the SAME TIME?
If that’s what the Daily Mail really believe (as opposed to, for example, simply been trying to stir up some kind of divisive “identity wars” crap), it speaks volumes about their own ineptitude than it does about this officer’s performance.
It used to be said about the (rather pathetic) President Ford, that he “couldn’t walk and chew gum at the same time”. Well, apparently, there at the Daily Mail, they feel that it’s not possible to run an effective organisation AND treat your staff with equality. Who knew?
Why is being ‘woke’ a bad thing?
Not once have I thought:
>you care about sexism, racism, homophobia? God you’re such a woke idiot.
Good for him. Little things to help you understand what your colleagues are going through should be encouraged.
Its only the Daily Mail reading cavemen who can’t wrap their brain cell around the concept
There always seems to be a supply of former police officers who are willing to step up to decry something as ‘woke’. Where do the press find them, is there some sort of register? They always seem to be so coordinated.
I remember when the police actually went out of their way to catch villains, and not entertain wokey bollocks like this.
>However, the Daily Mail reported how the move was criticised and dubbed a “woke stunt” by a former Scotland Yard chief superintendent.
Oh the Daily Fail can fuck off so much. There’s nothing wrong with this. I think it was admirable and very progressive of him. Shows he really cares about women’s views.
