This is a real story

  1. They’d have to have *some* level of self awareness that going to the Middle East wearing a fucking crusaders outfit is pretty offensive.

I don’t know why they idolize the Crusaders so much either because bar the first one and a scored draw on the Third Crusade, the Crusaders got their arses handed to them in the other 6. Or that one time they didn’t even go, they just sacked Constantinople on the way and took a bunch of the treasure back to Venice.

  2. I honestly don’t see the problem. Comparisons to dressing up as Nazis are wild given the last crusade was in the 13th century. Should we ban Nordic visitors from dressing up as vikings? Or does r/Ireland just hate the English more than Qatar?

  3. Qatar also bans non Muslims from proselytising. Not exactly a paragon of liberal democracy or tolerance. But sure lets have this one so we can get one over on the Brits.

  4. Ffs this is ancient history. About as reasonable as people getting upset about the Viking splash tour because the Vikings murdered people here.

  5. Isn’t it odd that the group asking Western society to accept their bigotry is banning so many things?

  6. So we’re defending a country that recently murdered *checks notes* 6,500 workers and exploited thousands more, because people from country we tend to dislike decided to wear their Amazon crusaders outfits? Sorry, but I’m with England this time. The only negative thing I can say about it is that they’re in that horrible country for an event that has been built on the blood of innocent people.

  7. This the same country that killed thousands of migrant workers and doesn’t let people be openly gay in public? Fuck right off. If being homophobic and racist is your culture then why can’t being a crusader be part of there’s

  8. I mean yes it’s distasteful a little bit but they’re not exactly doing it to be controversial. The world cup could be in England or fucking Narnia and they’d still wear them

Can’t believe I’m actually defending English football fans….

  9. Lmao this place trying it’s hardest to try and make out this is some awful crime hahaha. Talk about pearl clutching like. Funny how nobody ever talks about how Arabs ended up in control of all these places to begin with? Or the fact that a Norwegian showing up to a game dressed like a Viking would bring literally no reaction because who actually cares lmao

  10. Everything led to this World Cup was a huge mess, after all the other bans from the Qatari government I actually enjoy seeing them taking a piss at Qatar

  11. See this is all about cultural power. The Irish are asserting their narrative as a corrective power against the dominant historical English one. Historical wokism they call it but it’s happenin

  12. English people didn’t know about the Famine in Ireland either apparently until they watched an episode of the Young Victoria back in 2020 either apparently.

I wouldn’t say they’d know much about the antics their forefathers got up to in the crusades either..

  13. I don’t care about football or england but as soon as you know anything about football and the world cup you would realise that this is exactly what fans do.

  14. These fine folk do know the franc crusaders lost right?

Like majorly, tens of thousands of them died and everything they gained they lost.

  15. The reality is that the Crusades were a reaction to centuries of Muslim conquests. Yeah, they were brutal, but those were brutal times. Muslims do *not* have the moral high ground here. The fans deserve a pass.
