Here is proof that Dublin City council are actively reducing our quality of life by purposefully creating traffic problems. This bud stop is 30m from a T junction. No cars can get around once it stops. Move the bus stop 50m to where there is a bus lane and traffic moves free.

Fair point.
But is it Dublin City Council or Dublin Bus that is responsible? Genuine question.
There’s probably more people on the bus than queuing in cars.
Stupid? Yeah. But can you explain why you think they’d do it on purpose? Who stands to gain?
Good, we need to reduce car use in the cities.
And what about the junctionion literally 100 metres up from it ? It makes no difference
You are paranoid. This bus stop existed before the bus lane. The bus lane can’t reach the stop due to the road layout.
So to fix this someone would have to take the iniative to go and get planning approval to move the stop. Which is pretty unlikely to happen without any need for the council to be out to get you.
>actively reducing our quality of life by purposefully creating traffic problems.
DCC are out to get ye folks.
WAKE UP SHEEPLE
Ah Santry, lovely lovely Santry
That road is just horribly designed lol, especially given how popular it is. Trying to park a car in any of those houses is a nightmare.
But do some of the buses who use that stop need to turn right there?
I believe a lot of bus stops positions are going to be reconsidered and moved as part of the Bus Corridors work.
This stop location likely existed before the bus lane was added.
Things are getting a bit more coordinated now that the NTA exists and has more of a mandate to fix stuff like this.

You’d want to see some of the shite cork city council/bus eireann allow. This death trap in particular:
– no actual footpath for people to wait. Bus stop is just wedged up against a wall, hidden behind some trees. People waiting for the bus are basically just on the edge of a major road
– wheelchair access…..nah
– it’s located 15m after a major junction. Traffic backs up blocks all the junction when the bus stops
– cars behind the bus attempt to overtake the stopped bus going uphill. So many close calls with head on collisions with cars coming downhill. Especially at sunset time as you are facing west trying to overtake
– the red brick houses just after the bus stop park all their cars on the road. The bus can’t actually fit in its lane when it gets going so coming down the hill you end up drifting out of your lane to allow the bus come up

Carbrains when buses exist 🤡
Damn this is the epitome of first world problems. “Ugh I hate that I have to look at those cars being delayed by almost 1 full minute for public transport users to board a great service, why does the council hate us”
Also stop using your phone while driving
We didn’t need photographic evidence. It’s been clear for years that Councils want to get rid of private cars, especially out of town and city centres, but then the likes of Dublin Bus are providing a worse service than they did 15-20 years ago, but now it’s harder to commute with a car because the bus options are so absolutely fucking terrible and the road layouts are shockingly bad.
Actively? That bus stop has been there for over 40 years.
Recently had the exact same situation in my town. Local residents complained and the bus stop was moved 50 metres up the road into the bus lane. Traffic flows a lot better now
Remember, the city manager openly said he would “frustrate drivers out of their cars”, they aren’t hiding this adjenda, they’re embracing it.
Tough shit, get out of your fucking car.
Not to be one to let the council off with a problem but I imagine that the spec for distance back from a junction is set out in DMURS, the geometric design of junctions and the traffic signs manual.
As of about 6 months ago a circular was issued to each local authority stating that the specs as per the above docs (among others published by the TII) must be adhered without divination.
Now as to how much each council will who knows.
The base start point for urban road design are in them books that are not written by the council. Going against them may leave the council open to litigation.
These specs are the fault of the dept of transport, dept of local government and the TII. DMURS especially can be difficult.
Redesigns for a junction such as this would be done with approval (or looking over) by the TII.
The long run plans (as quickly as possible) is to sell off the bus service, the trains and the rest to private companies. But they have to let them go to shit first, so that we don’t complain.
You can’t be at that, cause that would make sense
In general, the traffic light System is absolute trash in Dublin. Go to Germany and you see efficient traffic lights that work not only together along the junction but a whole street complex etc
That stretch of road at the comet pub in santry is a disaster. Bus lane then merges in at the last minute before a junction with a bridge into whitehall
Bus driver here.
Councils are fucking dumb when it comes to placing bus stops (it’s a universal council thing)
Bud stop 😂😂 if bud are paying for the advertising no problem we need the money!
Ideally we need less cars and more bikes on the road to save the earth. Make people see walking out cycling is easier will help. This is 4d chess not incompetence
I think it’s just that they’re passively incompetent.
