Settle this. Left or Right?

  1. Neither, cream is just to annoy moustaches and tempt cats.

But putting jam down as a a base without butter is sinful.

  2. Cream on scones is a no, sorry. It’s 100% a weird Brit thing that infiltrated Ireland. Scones are more like bread than cake. Imagine putting cream on bread.

  3. Neither.
They should be like a sandwich with only Kerrygold butter (the right amount and right temperature) as the filling.

But if you want jam then let it be jam alone.

  4. This looks like whipped cream to me, in which case the answer is always always the right picture. The whole jam-cream debate in the UK (which is stupid to begin with, there I said it) never made sense to me because I didn’t understand how you could spread the jam on top of whipped cream, so how could anyone put the cream first.

The answer is they use clotted cream, which is much much thicker and more spreadable than whipped cream, so it works. I’ve only ever seen whipped cream used in NI (where I’m from, and I assume same is true of the Republic given this photo) where the only right answer if you want proportionate amounts of jam and cream on each bite is to put the jam first.

  5. Has anyone ever microwaved there scones before? Throw it in the microwave for 30 seconds on a high heat and it softens and heats it up, throw on butter and jam then after

  6. This is a human rights violation if I’ve ever seen one. Scones should only ever be married with clotted cream. Using whipped cream is an insult to the cow that produced.
