> A comparative analysis of UK-Japan trade figures for 2020 and 2021 by Morita-Jaeger and a colleague states: “In all cases but one, Japanese exports and imports of goods and services with the UK performed worse than the equivalent flows with the EU or the rest of the world.” Morita-Jaeger said Japanese businesses had used the UK as a gateway to Europe since the 1980s.
Sunak is being pushed by a big, uncompromising, section of his party to tear up EU derived laws (no matter that it was the UK that pushed for many of them) and to sign [Truss style trade deals](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-63627801) that sell out the UK.
And he’s being pushed by THE SAME PEOPLE to show that Brexit was an economic success and had delivered growth, but he’s not allowed to implement any policies, such as alignment with the huge economic bloc on our damn doorstep, that would actually allow growth to happen.
And the voting public keep electing these jokers into power.
Brexit: the gift that keeps on shitting the bed then pretending it’s not there. Just mounds of shit everywhere now, more shit than duvet.

Waiting for the resident Brexiteers here to try and explain why the pandemic actually caused this and Brexit is still a perfect scenario
Obviously there’s a pandemic and global factors at work here but even accounting for that, it at least shows there isn’t this huge Brexit benefit that we’re reaping.
Deflect to immigrants. Have an eye catching headline about restricting foreign students to handful of universities.
It’s beyond post truth. It’s beyond satire. The Tory should fracture and keep the saner members.
A trade agreement with Japan is a landmark moment for Britain, but I must buy an electric car because my car is bad for the environment.
The ERG are traitors and should be punished as such.
Brexit was the best thing to happen to nigel farage
Do they account for the fact that pound fell significantly in the same timeframe?
When will the winning end. I can’t take it. Off to put gold flakes on my fry up. Again. Getting boring now.
The lack of badckdoor access to Europe is another reason that the US is in no hurry to grant a deal to the UK. Prior to Brexit it worked well for them, now for the inconvenience they’re happy to hold out and try and extract concessions.

But it IS ok, apparently, to give up sovereignty in pursuit of joining a [trade bloc](https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/explainers/trade-cptpp) on the other side of the planet.
