The walled city of Cork, circa 1600…

  1. Pretty obvious why they’re called North and South Main Street from this, interesting how the main street of the city has changed since then.

Would the middle channel next to 5 be Patrick Street now?

  2. Fun fact “le chateau” on Patrick’s St. has an entry on the first floor because, as you see in the picture, Patrick’s St. used to be a canal and sailors would step off the ship directly into the pub. Or so I’ve been told at least

  3. For reference the bridge in the top left is North Gate bridge and in the bottom right is South Gate Bridge. The long wall on the right side of the picture would run along where the Grand Parade is now. Much of the City centre now including Patricks street would be in reclaimed marsh land from the top right of the image. There used to be a canal running in front of where the Opera house is now which can be seen in the top centre.
