  1. I don’t understand the metrics.

What was the question asked? Was it 1-10 scale rating ? Was it done on the map or in text fields?

Not to be that guy but just like I can’t name and place States of USA i doubt half of the Americans could name and place European Countries.

Like in general Americans will have obviously better opinion about Western Europe because of “wealth” association…. but neither Italy being the highest nor the Portugal being negatively viewed makes any sense.

I would also assume that by Americans we meant only few selected states ? That would explain biased towards Italy for example. The difference between certain states in USA is as huge as difference between 2 nations in Europe.

  2. I’m offended. We should do more to present ourselves to Americans. We deserve special color, god damn it!

  3. Subject the participants of this “opinion” map to the following test: mention every country in there. Ask the participant to pinpoint the country on the European map.

Points: 3 if correctly pointed. 1 if pointing to a directly neighboring country. 0 otherwise.

I doubt many US Americans would score well in such a test. Anything above 25 in average would really surprise me. (*)

So not knowing anything about a country, let alone its location, but still expressing an opinion is ok? Right…

(*) US Readers, feel free to report your scores 😉

  4. Germany used to be in the 90th %, until Trump convinced half of Americans that 2020 election results were sent to Germany and changed… Americans are stooooooopid

Edit, imagine Americas strongest and most fervent ally in Europe since 1948… and on the word of a fat embesseling madman half the nation decides that Germany is evil.

  5. I’m an American so I can explain.

Russia is bad. Italian food is good. Ireland and England speak english thus we know a bit more about them. The light green countries are European countries we’ve heard of, so they must be okay. The yellow and orange, we haven’t heard of, so they’re not okay.

  6. What’s the point of this?

We get a graph similar to this once a week, and they all have different results. What does it matter what the 200 random people who answered a random survey think about random countries???

  7. Americans have views? whaaaaaaat?

But I assume Italy is the only foreign country they have heard of in Europe, or maybe they think it is in Asia. Idk.
