I logged into my revenue and as I’m navigating through the menus I see this box on the bottom of the ‘Non-PAYE income’ page, It seems optional to uncheck the box and I’m reluctant to go further with it. I was on the PUP while my sector was slow and as you can imagine paying that lump before Christmas doesn’t appeal to me. Has anyone here come across this?

  1. You won’t have to repay it immediately. Better off just seeing how much and paying as you can. Revenue will eventually chase.

That looks like the total PUP received not the tax you owe I think?

  2. This is not a repayment. It is just showing how much you received. The box is just for you to confirm the amount. You may or may not owe some tax depending on your other income.

  3. You won’t be able to go any further without confirming the amount. If you feel the amount reported to Revenue is incorrect then contact DSP to get confirmation of the amount paid. If the amount is correct you must tick the box to confirm to go any further in submitting your tax return. As it’s your tax return and we don’t know your taxable income from other sources along with tax paid or your credits/reliefs and your rate band; we can’t comment on what the outcome of the submission of the return may be. You may have tax to pay, no tax to pay or be due a refund of tax. If you’ve tax to pay, COVID related tax debt can be collected by reducing your tax credits in future years.

  4. You should only be liable for tax on the amount. Tax credits might cover it. I was out of work for a year and my tax credits covered mine and I ended up getting repaid a bit extra as I had overpaid usc

  5. Like others have said, you don’t have to repay that money. It’s just forming part of your taxable income for the year in which you got the PUP.

  6. Along as you were entitled to that money you’ll at worst have to pay it back in small amounts over a long period of time.
It’s not the bold pup repayment.
