Zakaj nas Američani ne marajo?

  1. If we look at Mitteleuropa we can draw the line at Austria. Everything down are barbarians, Balkan. ~~~ Slavoj Žizek približno tak

Vglavnem tak zgleda Balkan tujini, in zaradi tega nizki %

Vse slovanske države so slabše ocenjene + vse “znane države” imajo dobre ocene (razen očitnih seveda).

Naredi anketo kaj si Slovenci mislijo o USA državah (states) in bo rezultat nekako tak:

    1. Kalifornija
    2. New York
    3. …

Zadnji: Virginia, Missisipi, Georgia… V glavnem nekaj o čemer ne vemo nič.

  4. Melania + flag looks like russia so they think slovenia is some fringe eastern european country + they think all exyu countries are the same

  5. Zakaj bi nas moralo brigat kaj Američani o nas mislijo (razen če so Clevelandski Slovenci)? Američani so splošno zelo nevedni kar se tiče izven Ameriških krogov. Vir: razno razni artikli, videi o npr. geografiji, zgodovini, politiki itd.

  7. 90%+ of americans don’t even know Slovenia is a country. Of those that do, probably half are confusing it with Slovakia. The ones who do truly know it have probably traveled in the area or know it from NBA players or Tour de France and have a positive view of it. Those who don’t have a positive view probably lump it in with the Balkans or Yugoslavia (depending on how old they are) which have a negative connotation. Or worse, they just group all slavic countries with Russia (this map seems to suggest that interpretation–this map appears to be current, i’d bet good money a pre-war version would show Ukraine as orange also).

  8. As an American, I think I can’t explain.

Geography is not well taught in our schools. Americans think Russia = bad. Pasta is good and comes from Italy, so Italy = good. The UK and Ireland speak English so they must be good. Americans have heard of the Western European countries (except for Portugal, apparently) so it’s light green. They aren’t as familiar with the Eastern European countries so they must be “bad”. It’s dumb, I know.

I’d also like to say, I’m currently planning my honeymoon in Slovenia this spring, and I can’t wait to visit your beautiful country!

  9. As the resident American I think everyone got the answers already. Some of it is ignorance. It seems to me that Americans as a whole are predisposed to dislike things they haven’t heard of. There’s the association with Yugoslavia. There’s the association with Melania (for which personally I have a very strong disliking of). And even those that do like Melania she shit talked Slovenia pretty good. Then there’s the confusion with Slovakia. And as can be seen there seems to be a general dislike for slavic countries which I think are strongly associated with Russia in the American mind. Then there’s your government which to a rather large proportion of those from the USA might as well be Socialism (capitalized).

    So in other words:
