Curry’s PC World now charges a delivery fee to have an item shipped to one of their stores for you to collect.

  1. Not just them, Sports Direct do it.

It has to be something about handing off some costs due to Brexit.

Also Curry’s take ages to deliver to your house for large appliances.

  2. So something you’re leaving out is that it’s the same price to deliver it to your door. I saw this recently when looking at something. Seems they are encouraging home deliver rather than sending it from one store to another.

  3. This isn’t new. They have been at it for a while. They also tell you it’s free collection at the store then when you hit the checkout they add that charge to some items. That said I got something there recently that had this issue but was 100 euro cheaper than everywhere else.

  4. Currys are cunts. I bought a new fridge from them a couple of years ago and they want to be paid if you give the delivery guys the old one as part of the IEEE recycling.

I thought “Fuck that I’ll borrow a trailer or something and leave it to the dump meself”.

When the delivery guys arrived they asked if I want the old one taken away and I told them the deal about having to pay for it. They laughed and said “Don’t be stupid, we’ll take it”. Nice lads they were.

But fuck Currys for trying to monetise recycling that costs them nothing.

  5. Ah like wtf. So it’s going to be coming from their warehouse or supplier to their store anyway, but you’re making their job easier by ordering it up front, thereby not taking up valuable retail space and they’re charging you for that?

  6. Haven’t shopped in Currys since the time I asked a staff member to show me some memory cards for a camera (the most basic was about 20 euro) and he kept telling me I needed this massive ultra fast thing that was 120 euro. Eventually told him to fuck off and bought one from Amazon. Commission-less prick.

  7. Lol they can fuck right off with that one. A local cinema charges a 1 euro feel to book online now as well and I stopped going there lol

  8. Bought a Tv, soundbar and laptop last year. They only have display items. Had to wait between 5 and 9 weeks for everything. SHITE

  9. My advice to family was and still is don’t ever buy from Currys or PC world, when they find themselves stuck for that one item or pressie it’s me that has to go down to the store and sort out their mistake. Late delivery won’t be till after Christmas or being sold ex display units and being charged full price.

I don’t like to see anyone made redundant but I’ll make an exception for Currys/pc world senior sales staff and tech know how ‘experts’

  10. Don’t buy from Curry’s. If something goes wrong all their support numbers go to the UK and they can’t process repairs for Ireland. Even if you go into the shop, they give you a phone number that just goes to the UK. Drove me bananas trying to get a washing machine fixed a couple of years ago.

Plus they charge more than literally everywhere else.

  11. Yeah I was looking for a hoover last weekend and got the same when looking online to be able to pick it up in Blanch. Feckin joke. I think it’s a bit odd a scam though.

I decided to pick another model that was in stock. But when I went in the original one that supposedly had to be delivered to the store was actually in stock!!

  12. Out of all the big box stores, Curry’s are the worst. Any of the others seem miles better (with the exception of Harvey Norman which is another dump).

Power City, Expert, and DID are always reasonably sound to deal with.

  13. A small funfact about Curry’s: They’re bastards. Never buy anything from them. I asked their IT guy to point me towards batteries that could replace my CMOS and he had no idea what I was even saying. Literally no use.

  14. I don’t really mind.

I want to buy an item, and because I am using a gift card, I cannot do it online.

So, either I have to travel from Meath to Cork and get it myself (if it fits in the car), or pay 7e and have it delivered to my nearest store.

    I prefer the 2nd option.

  15. To make it even better, when you get there to collect the item, having paid your €7, it won’t be behind the counter. They’ll just walk out to the shop floor and look for it, and if they don’t find it say “Sorry. I think we’re out of them.” This despite you having paid to reserve it and for the pleasure of coming to collect it.

    Love Curry’s. Great shop.
