  1. “Ah lads please don’t glamorise cannabis. Well anyway I’m off to drink a pint of Guinness with a foreign head of government/state” Micheal Martin.

*Disclaimer I think they are both grand in reasonable quantities.

  2. I lived in Amsterdam for a number of years. The Dutch don’t glamorise it and many don’t use it but they accept it’s a reality. They legalize, regulate and tax it. This creates jobs, tax revenue and tourism. It’s not my thing personally but it’s no worse and arguably better than the drink culture we have here

  3. “I don’t know where he just pulled the 7g out of existence,” he said.

It’s a figure which indicates **personal** use, how else are you going to measure it?

  4. Considering the amount of young people you’re letting get COVID over and over, it’s safe to say you don’t give a shit about giving young people cognitive issues Micheál. Hint, was it cannabis or COVID that permanently fucked up my sense of smell?

  5. Ah because greed is doing ever so well, building houses, infrastructure, care.

You know Martian, it’s almost like the wrong people are in charge, they are very much right for the people who want to maintain power and status, though not really the types to push social change and evolution.

Sure lets just glamorise, drink, with all it’s ups and downs, domestic violence, abuse, broken families and so much more.

I know many of yer peers are on the coke, I know it’s something that ruins yer buzz.

But cop on though not much cop on to be fair. Just $$$$$ signs in the eyes.

Why would you support criminals ?

  6. If you read the article he says FF won’t ” necessarily ” back the bill. Key word is necessarily If the public opinion of the bill is high ( no pun intended) then they will flip. Its an easy win for them. FF have no back bone and will do anything to be popular. Exact same with FG. They know they are losing young people so an easy win for them is to get on board with cannabis. They take all the credit and gain some international recognition and then align themselves with Canada, Germany and probably USA soon. They are not ideologically opposed to so once public opinion is for change they will follow!

If not this bill they will enter in their on bill and take all the credit! Guarantee it! Such an easy win for them and I’m positive they know it. In all honesty I don’t care who does it but the laws need to be changed and who ever backs change should be rewarded. If FFG get on board and take over Ginos bill and it then eventually passing then im all for it!

  7. The last bill of this nature was torpedoed on the grounds that it contravened existing treaties with the US not on health grounds, in that time their has been a lot of lessening of sanctions on Marijuana globally. If only to free up resources and reduce pressure on Guards and the courts, legalise it, sell it and tax it.

  8. A man out of touch and step with modern Ireland, he used to be a minister in the 90s. Weed, bad. Local price gouging publican selling poison, good.

I think if weed was more legally available, people would drink less and that would have its own benefits.

We’ll get there. In another 50 years after most EU countries legalised it.

  9. Cannabis can do harm to young people …..shocker so can fags cans and cocaine

No one is suggesting you give cannabis to kids ffs…… adults should have a right too choose.

Before you say well decriminalisation would make it easier for kids to get cannabis……please take your head out of your ass and look around……you can buy cannabis anywhere on the street……legit just f***ING ask around

So do you prefer kids buy cannabis from dangerous dealers or would you prefer they just use fake ids like they do for cans……..ffs it’s harder for kids to get cans than cannabis you ignorant plonker

    ……sigh……rant over

  10. If you enjoy cannabis, this article should actually be music to your ears. It’s an exceptional softening of the traditional parties’ position on cannabis, no doubt precipitated by similar softening across the EU.

The language suggests the government is likely to bring in something over the next few months. It won’t be as specific as Gino Kenny’s billz but it may decriminalise possession for personal use.

That’s a wedge issue. There’ll be wailing about it being not enough, but once that’s officially in place, it’s way easier to legalise growing and eventually selling.

  11. yet we have tours to show off where we make our special alcoholic brews that we’re so proud of.

    what a fucking gobshite.

  12. So he’d rather put people through the justice system and ruin their lives? What about the mental impacts of that? What about the medical positives cannabis brings loads of people but they can’t speak about how it’s helped them over fears of being demonized by people like this clown. Grand for him to fuck people out of houses and ramp up taxes but god forbid the people started smoking a bit of grass. Sure they could all wake up and realize how much they’re being shafted then

  13. Some 30-odd years ago a friend of mine attended UCC with a local up & coming political player who had no qualms about toking at the various UCC parties they attended. At the time it seemed exciting because we thought there might be hope for cannabis legislation down the line…
FFWD to a few years ago that same politician stood up in front of the entire country in a live tv debate and denied ever using cannabis – and sneered as his rival was asked the same question . Can you guess his name?
