  1. I just hope the other MEP’s are aware of how much this man doesn’t represent our country.

    He’s destroying our credibility.

  2. This man is unreal. Obsessed that the US is behind everything and that’s why he’s against everything. US bad therefore Russia/China/Iran good. Spouting whataboutism’s until the cows come home. Zero reflection on magnitude of the situations, never revisits statements in light of the facts. . what he said pre-Russian the Russian invasion and post are unbelievable. War crimes, torture, bombing civilians and civilians infrastructure, lies by the Russians…no he wheels out the “I don’t support Russia, I just don’t support not supporting Russia, and sure the Ukrainians are doing the same thing. And its all America’s fault”… then into a rant about the US and NATO.

  3. Okay. I feel like I might be on very shaky territory here. But that wasn’t THAT bad. Not defending his stances on other issues but he’s said:

    1. He’s calling out MEP’s and world leaders for spreading a story that Reuters fact check has since ruled as false despite news outlets initially widely reporting the story and representing it as fact.
    2. He’s acknowledged there are peaceful protests and unlawful imprisonments happening in Iran.
    3. He’s acknowledged Irans crackdown has been aggressive and resulted in far too many deaths.
    4. He’s claimed there have been murders committed by SOME protesters and untold damage that wouldn’t be tolerated anywhere.
    5. John Bolton says there are weapons entering from Iraq-Kurdistan.
    6. 5 constitutes technically an attack on Iran.
    7. He goes on a fairly hyperbole ridden speech about media disinformation akin to what HE says happened in Syria.
    8. He asks do we want the same outcome we saw in Syria for Iran.

1,2 and 3 are fair. Maybe he’s a little optimistic if he expects an apology by the Canadian PM here though. 4 and 5 are probably safe assumptions 6 + 7 are rich and a bit dramatic. 8 is fair.

Again I don’t support Wallace much but this time, overall, I’m kind of happy there’s some bit of balance to what he’s saying and I don’t really see this speech as “supporting the Iranian Authoritarian Regime”.

I also don’t agree with anything the Iranian regime does to be clear.

    Edited grammar

  4. I’ve got alot of shit on this sub for defending Wallace and Daly in that while I dont necessarily agree with them, i believe they are acting in good faith. I have to admit, this is a shocking take on Iran and it is what happens when you become too engrossed in American imperialism.

While the comments about Syria being left in ruins after their civil war are not untrue, there is little doubt that the Iranian protestors are genuine. Is the US rubbing their hands together watching the revolution? Undoubtedly. But women trying to break free of theocratic oppresion is about as ethically clean a revolution you could hope for.

    Very poor take from Wallace.

  5. please vote this guy out at the next election!! he’s an embarrassment for Ireland and does not represent the people, only his own agenda and beliefs.

  6. > Last week, we had MEPs and members of the European External Action Service, and even some world leaders spreading disinformation, claiming the Iranian government had decided to impose the death penalty on nearly 15,000 protesters.

    > When the lie was exposed, the Canadian Prime Minister deleted his tweet, but he did not issue an apology. There are peaceful protests. Many Iranians are unjustly imprisoned and should be released, and far too many have been killed by the aggressive crackdown. There have also been much violence and murders by some protesters, untold damage and destruction. It would not be tolerated anywhere.

    > John Bolton confirmed that the Iranian opposition is now being armed with weapons entering Iran from Iraqi Kurdistan. Iran is under attack. The media assault is intense. The campaign of propaganda and destabilisation brings the Syrian regime change operation to mind. Those who supported the so-called Syrian revolution say nothing today about Syria lying in ruins, illegally occupied, sanctioned to death, with millions displaced and hundreds of thousands dead. Is this what yiz want for Iran?

  7. I don’t quite get Wallace’s logic here regarding an armed uprising.

Is he saying that using violence against a violent regime is always wrong even if the possibility of peaceful protest is no longer viable ? The Iranian regime will never be brought down by peaceful means, the IRCG have too much at stake to allow it.

Wallace seems to be of the view that any violence should always be condemned regardless of the circumstance, extreme pacifism effectively.

  8. I imagine if you asked Wallace for specifics about what the West has done in Syria, he wouldn’t have a fucking clue, because they did frustratingly little as the fascist Assad slaughtered his own people.

The majority of the deaths and destruction in Syria are due to Assad and Russia, who Wallace supports. But I’m sure if you challenged him on this he’d start spouting shite about “CIA propaganda” or something.

  9. “Iran” is under attack is false. The theocratic authoritarian repressive anti human Iranian regime is under attack from Iranian women. Supported by Iranian men and Kurds.

The Iranian regime and Putin’s psychopathic mercenaries and air force carry huge responsibility for the slaughter in Syria as does the Assad family and regime.

Wallace’s rants don’t carry the moral weight tankies imagine. As a pacifist he believes it is better to live as a slave liable to ethnic cleansing and cultural obliteration and mass kidnapping of children than start fighting or even worse accept weapons from those who will give them to you to defend yourself.

I welcome his and Daly’s rants. They expose the utter uselessness of their view of reality every time they pontificate. We’ve abandoned the church here but a lot of us seem to want to be secular priests and just give sermons. Preach, Mick.

  10. That speach was actually pretty well measured, and he’s not exactly wrong in pointing out there probably is western interference here, and if there is the end goal probably isn’t what the Iranian protesters would want, it’s what will suit the west, a weakened Iran. I don’t agree with everything he says or does, but this one i wouldn’t be so quick to jump against.

  11. This is pretty mild criticism to the western response to the protests not endorsing the Iranian state line

The most supportive thing that could be done to increase the survival of the Iranian regime is western intervention which legitimises their line that this is a western coup

Iran would likely not be like this today had the west not gone balls deep supporting Saddam in his invasion for example

  12. He was spot on for about 35 seconds. Exposing the lie of the 15,000 death penalties and calling for the surviving peaceful protestors to be released. After that, complete propaganda from the Iranian regime.

My advice to this is to just listen to Iranian people instead of Europe’s dictator’s mouthpiece Mick Wallace. Many in Iran are sick of the way their country is portrayed in the west as some sort of Arabic hellhole when in reality, the actual ordinary people are secular and Persian and know what’s going on in the world. They’re just unfortunately beholden to a mullah class who rule with the thick end of the Quran. Doesn’t help when Wallace is doing their bidding in Brussels every day.

The silent protest by the Iranian footballers was a turning point in my opinion. These men are stars, and held in just as high regard as the likes of film stars. The videos will emerge locally if they haven’t already and it’ll just encourage more protests. Wallace will be given more propaganda soon I suspect.

  13. Very disappointing. The Iranian government has committed atrocities against it’s own people and has been doing it since it attained control in 1979. The obscenities it’s committing now are nothing new for this theocracy.

  14. I’m not Irish, only recently moved here, and don’t know everything yet about Irish politics, but everything that I’ve seen so far of this Mick Wallace tells me he has the integrity and trustworthiness of a cumcrusted dishcloth.

    Would I be correct?

  15. I’m a constituent of his. I’m almost giddy at the thought of him and no doubt Daly, knocking on my door looking for a vote. Wallace and Daly were always a pair of useless cunts and I’m glad the whole country can see that now.

They never should have been elected to any office. They should be shoveling shit somewhere but that’s an insult to shit shovelers.

I remember standing a couple of meters away from them on Patrick’s street last election season (I doubt they’ve been in Cork since) and I really regret not calling them cunts then. Hopefully I’ll get my opportunity.

  16. Is Moscow Mick and Kremlin Clare’s, only talking point ‘Merica and NATO bad: Everyone else good?

Furthermore, do they not realize that the USSR dissolved over thirty years ago and is now a capitalist oligarchy shit hole run by a genuine authoritarian who expressly hates the EU and everything it stands for. I’d love to know what kind of mental gymnastics are going on there to rationalize that kind of thinking in their minds

    Fucking sake like.

  17. Wallace’s blind hatred for the US and things American combined with his equally blind belief in the proverb “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” is embarrassing for him and the people who voted for him. He is driven by this hatred and this makes him a prime “useful idiot” for Putin and the the mullahs in Tehran. As he is blinded he just doesn’t see it. Very probably he thinks he’s actually someone of some importance!

  18. What the fuck is wrong with this tool, defending an authoritarian regime against a working class grass roots uprising, and he calls himself a socialist??? 🤦🏼‍♂️ just fuck off Mick Wallace you anti worker tax dodging prick

  19. Garbage post. Being anti-war is not supporting the regime. The way things are headed, it’s bound to be another disastrous war

OP and other glowies are trying to consensus crack

  20. Mick’s position presented here is in line with mainstream global thought. Westerner’s can’t cast away this uncomfortable truth with shouts of whataboutism.

  21. Please for the love of fuck can we not re-elect this prick in the next European elections? Him and Clare Daly have been nothing but a blight on Ireland internationally. Especially when it comes to Ukraine.

  22. This buffoon turned up in Iraq in support of a pro-Iran jihadist group some years ago along with Clare Daly. He also admitted to hiring a hitman to recover a debt from a building firm. The man is a crook through and through. He supports every unsavoury regime on the planet, and is able to get away with it with his habitual throat clearing about western “hypocrisy” towards the Palestinians or whatever group he pretends to support in order to criticize the EU
