  1. > No coins for the homeless.

So we’re fine with people being homeless and the real problem is not having a pocket of shrapnel to offload on them.

  2. Hmm…why no saving for a rainy day without cash?

And in my youth I got digital tip as a waiter, and that was 25 years ago.

  3. All the points are very accurate. I live in Germany at the moment (strong cash culture) and these views are common among many people.

During the summer many shops forgot to update their payment terminals and they all crashed simultaneously, meaning people who depend on cards could buy anything for two days.

Yes, this is a failing of the management of those shops, but it shows that if you have a digital-only currency you are dependent on many systems being correctly maintained.

Also, if you use apple pay or google pay, you are giving all of your transaction information to companies who have a business model to sell that info to advertisers.

  4. Meh, my kids get their fivers popped onto their Revolut and then save them in a vault. They’re now doing better with money than they ever did with cash

  5. Yeah because computers always work.

Ireland also has such a great track record with security online and making amazingly well laid out websites and apps.

    *”facepalm”*

  6. Whilst some of the graphics are a bit OTT, I don’t think questioning a cashless society makes one a conspiracy theorist. I do pretty much everything digitally but I like to have some cash in case the card machines are down/my phone gets stolen/banking app is down etc

  7. If covid showed anything its that when there’s an agenda it will be pushed through regardless. No stopping a CBDC, just load up on XMR, BTC and ETH

  8. Wow.. this is the new conspiracy now. Ive seen andy quirk (who’s dad is the owner of slum casino ‘dr quirkies’ ) opposing this too, i suppose it would mean the end to unregulated gambling

  9. I don’t ever use cash but there are very valid reasons why we shouldn’t do away with it. I wouldn’t be comfortable with that at all.

  10. Bitcoin or Monero etc would just become the new cash alternative for people wanting to operate outside the system anyway though. They’re already serving that purpose as it is in a lot of ways. Most of the problems listed in the second graphic have already been solved by them, which is nice.

  11. What would this mean for Drug Cartels? They make millions and billions of dollars/euros and if your that way inclined to believe the old conspiracy theory that “Government’s are the biggest drug dealers” then surely they would not want this. That point aside, I’d like to know what/how the dealers would respond to such a change. From cartels to the low level street dealers

  12. You would have to be stupid to want physical cash removed. Imagine the government being able to just freeze your account and all your money or people being able to see every penny you have and where it goes.

  13. Who come these lunatics aren’t swarming over the cashless businesses like Krispy Kreme or some of the burrito stores?

  14. Revolut Vaults = rainy day
Sum Up machine = car boot sales, buskers, hair dressers etc
    The others are all covered.

If I Brske a €50 note it goes fast, cashless is far better for me

  15. I don’t like conspiracy theories but cash is inherently more important for the disadvantaged and less well off. A cashless society seems inherently classist and segregated.
