Fuel shortages in Hungary, the filling station attendant says it’s like Mad Max

  1. Obvious – and WARNING for the EU price cap:

Thirdly, and this is the main problem, the Hungarian government’s “self-defeating regulation”, i.e. **the regulatory price**, has “banned” importers from the country. Previously, there was a faint hope that at least importers would come in to sell to those buying at market prices, but since they cannot afford to sell only to those buying expensive petrol, hardly anyone but Mol imports fuel, and the Hungarian market is now isolated and short of supply.

  2. Not just that, but it is Mad Max 3… the shittiest one.

There is no sugar either btw 🙂

But they just extended the state of emergency and a the rule by decree by another **7 months**.
A lot of us said it 2 years ago, when Orbán started ruling by decree, that he will never gives up on it ever.

At this point Hungary as much of a democracy as Germany was in 1934.

  3. So are these actual fuel shortages caused by a lack of fuel getting into the country, or fuel shortages caused by people thinking there will be a fuel shortage so they decided to stock up on fuel causing said fuel shortage?

  4. There is a shortage not only of fuel, but also of food, on which a price cap has been imposed. Before the elections, Orbán the populist limited the price of 6 seemingly randomly chosen food products as a “measure” against inflation.

granulated sugar / wheat flour / sunflower oil / pork leg / chicken breast / chicken tail / 2.8% cow’s milk

The grocery stores are forced to sell these products at a loss. Of course, the companies have made all other food products more expensive to catch up with the loss (food inflation is currently at 40%) and besides, there is always a total shortage of these products, because in the market economy no one is stupid enough not to deliver abroad, when you can earn much more there.

Since prices are rising exponentially despite the “measures”, the other day they added eggs to the list. Well, since then we also have no more eggs in the stores.

The whole thing has predictably failed, but in the end Fidesz will once again explain to us why the EU is to blame for everything. As always.
