Met Police chief: around 100 officers in the force are on restricted duties “because frankly we don’t trust them to talk to members of the public” … it’s completely mad that I have to employ people like that as police officers”

  1. Improve working conditions and wages and maybe “better” people will join.

When people have a choice of multiple careers why would they pick a dangerous job dealing with the dregs of society where they’re provided zero support from superiors at risk of potentially years on suspension on every encounter with said dregs and constantly under the very biased microscope of the media for a bang relatively bang average wage? The police force get a fraction of the candidates they should be getting

  2. Well overall 100 out of the entire Met isn’t really that many percentage wise, but it is a concerning factor.

The sad fact is the Tory austerity cuts have decimated our police forces. We’ve lost far to many competent officers to the point that entire areas are struggling to get the job done. Then when they realised this, they rushed forward pushing for lower standards to make up the deficient they created.

  3. > “I’ve got about 100 officers in the organisation who have very restrictive conditions on them because frankly we don’t trust them to talk to members of the public,” he said. “It’s completely mad that I have to employ people like that as police officers that you can’t trust to have contact with the public.

And yet Cressida Dick thought it was all _just fine_.

When is she going to be held accountable for the damage she caused?

  4. It should be a lot more than 100. I met at traffic cop a few months back and he was an arrogant fool. He showed up the other 3 police officers that were attending. He was so rude! Unprofessional and had some sort of a god complex.

  5. This guy seems like he’s serious about tackling the problems within the force, rather than denying there even is a problem.

  6. The fact that the police are terrified to say it how it is should scare each and every one of us sane people. If they aren`t up to the job they shouldn`t be doing it, full stop. This is the police, not shelf stacking in a supermarket or pouring drinks in a bar/pub!! Our/your safety is literally in their hands or could be at any given moment! I want the best person for the job protecting me, not someone employed to appease! That`s ridiculous and extremely unsafe!

We should only have the very best in all our forces, not misfits just to keep certain minute sections of our society happy! Equal opportunities is being given the chance to do the job, if you aren`t good enough then that`s because you aren`t fit for the job, no other reason stop defecting away from that by whinging. Far too many people cannot accept the word no, cannot accept criticism and want to live in a make believe world in which we all have to pander to any wet lettuce that gets a bit upset by the truth or by facts.

Be better, have some self respect, put some effort in, own things, stop expecting everything to go your way all the time, stop the woe is me attitudes, stop the cry arsing, stop the laziness. Take control of your own life ffs, you`re grown adults, the world owes you nothing, go and graft for it!! Get a tutor, revise, loose weight, get in shape! Stop the whinging ffs.

  7. The article doesn’t go into detail, what’s stopping him from sacking them? Surely if they’ve done something severe enough that warrants this restriction it would be grounds for dismissal?

  8. Knew a guy who joined the police just so he could “get physical” and his biggest gripe was the fact that he couldn’t carry a gun.

  9. I’m 37 now, but 4 years ago I applied to the police in South Yorkshire. I had a good job but I’d always wanted to be in the force.

I went to the exam day, did all the tests and remember being in the final hall and looking around. I saw lots of the people I grew up with (perhaps a weird coincidence) that were awful then, and probably not much better now.

I decided there and then that it wasn’t for me. I ended up passing (scoring 59) and being offered the job. Turned it down and later found a few of those in the hall got the job (they were also known bullies at school).

  10. Never met a copper who wasn’t a cunt, including one of my own family members.

Also add Ive never committed a crime, so it’s not like I hate them for stopping me robbing someone.

    Just that cunts are cunts.

  11. You don’t have too, the recruitment process calls for wankers to be put through, and training promotes speaking to people like cunts.

  12. And he’s absolutely right… though I fear that even saying this will leave him open to constructive dismissal claims from the wankers, abd their learned friends.

In general I’m not a fan of US style “fire at will” employment laws. And the police of course are legally prevented from unionising. But something, surely, is badly amiss here.

  13. What’s the context of these 100 officers being on restricted duties? Is it them found unsuitable for field work because of an investigation, or is it people pending the outcome of an investigation?

One of those it’s understandable to be pissed, the other is just assuming guilt before a final verdict.

  14. I Make a good wage as a systems analyst.

Decided I wanted to make a difference and applied for similar work with GMP.

Was turned down over a CCJ I had on my credit file 5 years ago.

I have a mortgage and a family. It’s not just the officers you’ve got that’s the problem. It’s the ridiculously stringent entry requirements.

  15. I can not be the only one that thinks “Well if we don’t trust them to talk to members of the public”…Maybe they shouldn’t have been hired in the first place.

I can kinda understand needing a warm body to fill a position; hell I had to watch adults that were as useful as wet sacks of cabbage while in a jobsite.

This though is on a whole nother level. These are supposed to be public servants; meaning to deal with the public!

You might as well said that you hired the local Heroine addict to stock shelves at your local pharmacy.

    WtF!
