Clear sight-lines in both directions, so I don’t get how the drivers are failing to spot people on the crossing.
Typical drivers in Bradford. Most found their license in the bottom of a cereal box.
Pretty shocking that people apparently need more than fuck off painted white lines and two yellow beacons to remind them to use their eyes.
Honestly, the driving in Bradford is the best argument you can make for restricting legal immigration.
Absolutely madness. The only uncertainty is whether the bigger issue is the lack of skill or the lack of care for the laws.
Standard driving in Bradford – stick a camera on any crossing and you’d see the same.
The article mentions putting in traffic lights, which is a joke considering red lights are optional in Bradford.
As a person who grew up and lives in Bradford for uni, I cannot fathom how some of these knobheads got their licenses.
I can’t stand when some young dickhead has put one of them earth shaking exhausts on their car and flies around corners and up roads not giving a fuck who or what they might hit or deafen.
Good on this bloke for trying to get something done.
I hope the £1800 cctv system has cameras that capture the vehicle registrations.
Just wait until you see what Bradford citizens do with red traffic lights
The greater Leeds area is terrible for this, and is so dangerous to be either a pedestrian or another driver in. Drivers going through clear reds, not stopping for Zebras. Turn signalling is a foreign concept and drivers will slam on the breaks without warning to turn down a street.
If I’m at a light that goes from red to green I won’t start driving now until I clearly see the car at the just turned red slowing down to a stop, because I’ve almost been hit too many times. I do the same for zebra crossings. I’ve stood at one for a solid minute before as cars go by in each direction neither stopping nor caring. It’s truly insane.
Perhaps instead of catching people doing 25 in a pointless 20mph zone, the police can camp near that crossing and get people for careless driving or even dangerous driving.
I’d rather take my chances with the person doing 25 in a 20 and paying attention than any of these drivers.
Holy fuck that’s bad. It’s on the drivers legally (you have to stop if someone is already on the zebra crossing), but you should really be looking properly and anticipating that someone might not follow the rules whenever you cross a road. Maybe it’s because I’ve lived in a country where they drive on the right, crossed roads in Pakistan where the traffic in some areas is constant and haphazard (driving here is way harder than the US, there is like 5x harder than here) and had strict parents who didn’t let me off the hook if I didn’t clearly look both ways/behind, but I’m always assuming a car could come from anywhere but the sky. Only takes one crash to change your life or kill you, takes about 2 seconds and zero calories to look around and not get hit.
> No-one pictured in the video above was seriously injured, residents who helped at the scene told the BBC.
Quite apart from anything else, can I just say that this is fucking amazing.
I’ve been that bloke with his arms aloft SO many times (not in Bradford).
Almost anywhere designed for vulnerable road users to cross (pelicans, zebras, junctions into side streets etc) should be raised to the level of the pavement as this will **force** ignorant car drivers to slow down.
Will have no impact on competent car drivers as they’ll be slowing down anyway.
Obviously there will be exceptions to the above (e.g. faster roads, complex junctions) but it should be the norm on urban streets.
This is not unusual, sadly. I nearly got hit on a zebra crossing when one car stopped but the one behind just swerved around and straight over the crossing. Also a pelican crossing when the first car after the lights went red just carried on regardless.
Was that the same cyclist getting hit coming and going?
It’s well known around West Yorkshire that you take your chances when you drive into Bradford. It seems to have laws unto itself. You’ll often find it high up in the lists of areas with the most uninsured drivers in the country.
Bradford is one of the worst places you will ever drive outsode of Lahore – horrible place. The history and what was built prior to the 20rh century left to decay.
But the food and culture…….🤔
Honestly, driving and drivers have become so, so much worse in the UK over the past decade or so.
I live on a major route into a city centre which contains around three or four box junctions controlled by traffic lights.
Every day, without fail, the road will become helplessly clogged with traffic (I don’t mean it has a lot of traffic, I mean the traffic becomes hopeless gridlocked with itself) because drivers now seemingly do not understand or care about the fact that YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO DRIVE INTO A BOX IF YOUR ROUTE OUT OF IT ISN’T CLEAR.
I don’t drive, and as a pedestrian I cannot tell you the amount of times even within the past month I’ve nearly been hit because drivers cannot or will not indicate, or they’re running red lights, or they don’t understand or care about how zebra crossings work. I do everything that the Highway Code requires of me, and yet I’m still the one dancing with death whenever I pop down to the Co-Op.
I contacted my council to try to get the road outside my house safer (I’m on a crossroads with a primary school and a church on two of the other corners). There’s a takeaway just down from the crossroads, and people park on the pavement rather than walk a short distance, which forces pedestrians out into the road. My suggestion was to add railings to stop people parking on and blocking the pavement.
The council’s attitude was that because there were no reported injuries they won’t consider doing anything. So until someone is actually hurt, they don’t care.
I’m willing to bet that this is the same – until someone dies, they won’t bother themselves to care to prevent it.
Easy solution, ban foreign licences and have your driving licence picture printed on your insurance documents.
It is very easy to do and the government has all that info at hand and can easily supply insurers with it.
I feel like if someone drives straight through a zebra when it’s not clear, what’s to stop them running through a red?
I lived in Brighton for 40 years, and I can unequivocally say that the council there didn’t give a rat’s arse about the well-being of locals. If they could ignore anything or everything that was detrimental to people, they would. They have to be FORCED to do any work for the public good.
People are so naive about local councils: my experience (of Brighton, anyway) is that they’re full of lazy, self-serving morons who have no idea of serving the public.
Bradford is a scary place to drive. I learned in London and graduated to the middle of nowhere so am pretty confident in most road conditions. Leeds is no picnic and a horrible place as drivers don’t seem to understand how zebra crossings work. Bradford is next level though. I’ve wondered if I’ll have as much luck just shutting my eyes, screaming and letting go of the wheel.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that crossing – the issue is the sheer state of driving, and driving enforcement.
How has nobody noted the guy’s name:
> Mr Zeb
Man was born to watch over this crossing.
I’ve lived in Bradford most my life, that crossing has always been a dodgy one but there are many more in the city.
Jesus fucking Christ!!!!!! Really grinds my gears. Zebra crossing means stop! You see someone near it, you stop!!!
Tahir Zeb is a hero to do this. I hope the police visited those drivers.
That is driving in the UK, unfortunately.
This place seriously needs speed bumps, maybe a crossing table. Obviously that does not stop people from driving blind, but it would reduce the speed (or break a few suspensions, at least).
Imagine being the elected local MPs who have sat on their asses while this was happening in their constituency. They only decide it’s an issue when it goes viral…
Multiculturalism for you. “In my culture, we dgaf about any rules or any other road users. That’s my culture, respect it or you’re a racist.”
Why are people 1, walking out without even looking to see if cars are stopping and 2, cycling across a zebra crossing. Absolute numpties.
Obviously the drivers should be punished and are in the wrong but fuck sake, those pedestrians seem like they have a death wish.
Obviously some careless driving there, but also some incredibly reckless pedestrianing/cycling. Oh lets just walk across these stripes and not bother to look at see if a car is coming.
Gotta love aunty Beeb – “contains some upsetting scenes”
Bradford is rubbish. full of miserable people. Typical. Almost all or the majority of these Pakistanis and those related to the Asian community are known for acting fraudulently, crashing onto other cars to unlawfully claims insurance money. This is a fact known amongst them and you could ask any of them to check.
Furthermore, I was told by a relative who lives in this city that a driver instructor said they can get them a Full UK driving licence quickly and help them pass a driving test easily if they pay £150. They cheat the system, hence why accidents are common and happen so often in this town.
Despicable and dishonest people that would bribe you to get something instead of putting an effort to safe driving.
I respect people like Tahir, finding decent and good people is sort of rare nowadays.
I just can’t wait to move out of here.
Car / driving culture among some 20something men in this country is awedul, and so is the application of the law.
My town is full of these guys that have those ridiculous exhausts that sound like a jet engine, and spend all of their time just zooming round the town, not stopping for lights or crossings, and waking up half the town with their shit cars.
Police are too busy doing ‘random’ checks on cars leaving the local tesco and fining people for doing 35 in a 30 zone though.
I’ve reported several cars in my area for dangerous driving and being a nuisance, but no action seems to ever be taken.
I tend to not cross roads now until the oncoming car has fully stopped, as I’ve had way too many that don’t stop, and some that even speed up.

At 16 seconds it looks like that woman gets knocked down just as an ambulance is passing.
