Rent is not payable as you are offering the property but a tax-free payment of €800 per month (from December 1st) per property is available through the Government’s Recognition Payment Scheme.
Who pays utility bills for the property?
You should agree this with the beneficiary at the outset of the arrangement. It is reasonable that the beneficiary would pay or contribute to the bills.
Just to state I’m sympathetic to what’s happening in the war in Ukraine but what the hell is the government playing at, are they trying to wind up the Irish public with this, are they stirring the pot so as to make people sound racist for not agreeing because we want to look after friends and family who are struggling. 800 p/M rent, where are they hoping to find these places, many people working in Ireland would be delighted to find a place to live at this price and why a push for it now with Ukrainian refugees and not before with our own crisis, mind boggles

You realize if you have a second property and wanted to help freinds/family/Irish people out first you could explicitly do that for whatever price you want to.
Like following the market it a means to make money, you could just as easily rent out your place for 800 quid.
The government are offering peeps with vacant property a chance to make money they wouldn’t anyway, it’s not like it’s snatching it away from Irish people
