Embrace what may be the most important green technology ever. It could save us all | George Monbiot

  1. So, it seems we could all eat protein created using the ground-breaking technology of precision fermentation, and this could really help save the planet.

    Would we eat it?

The answer to that question, is probably best illuminated by the number of people who directly eat soy-based foods.

More than three-quarters of global soy production is fed to livestock for meat and dairy production. Much of the rest is used for biofuels, industry or vegetable oils. Only about seven percent of soy is used directly for human food such as tofu and soy milk.

Precision fermentation should perhaps be seen as a cheaper and more environmentally friendly replacement for soy farming.

Seen in that way, it’s clear that there is an awful long way to go before this new technology could grow to the extent that it would save the planet.

It might even make things worse, by making meat production cheaper, leading to the emission of more methane.

  2. Would certainly free up a lot of land and would certainly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but I suppose the crux of this is to design and manufacture a range of products that will appeal to consumers.
As well this could be the dream challenge for some innovative marketing companies.

  3. Like the peer reviewed crap that says by 2030 civilization will collapse because of climate change. The media allows these fear pedalling freaks airtime and people fear the worst and take it 100% fact, much like the covid reporting.

I’m not a link poster because i’m not doing your work for you. Forbes published an article on it and it’s the most impartial thing i’ve seen regarding this thing.
