Ordered Monday Afternoon, arrived this morning (Wednesday). Just want to praise our passport office for being the most efficient sector in our country. Well done.

  1. Boss almost identical experience. Applied Sunday night (IN CANADA!!) and got the renewed passport on Tuesday afternoon in the post. Unbelievable.

  2. Renewals are easy, first passports are hard. My sister tried to get her son a passport for a trip to Spain recently, she ordered it 3 months before the the trip, had to cancel the trip because it didn’t get there in time.

  3. It’s decent when you renew online alright. My one complaint about the new passports though is that the cover isn’t nearly as heavy duty as the previous passport I had. That cover was sturdy AF, I fear tearing the cover of this one if it gets catch in the pocket of my jeans as I’m rushing to pull it out for inspection (the passport, not me flute).

  4. Have a couple British colleagues, took them the best part of six months to get theirs, and they had to go in-person to the embassy. Shocked that I did mine all online, and had it under two weeks later.

  5. Same happened me and I ordered mine on New Year’s Eve I wasn’t expecting to have it back to me for weeks, the online application form has really made the office efficient

  6. I’m familiar with the company(s) that built the passport system. The process for renewal is fully automated as long as all your details are the same – all the way through to priming and sending – hence it works!

If anything has changed (eg married etc) or a first time passport, humans get involved, and hence….delays & inefficiency!

  7. Cheers OP. You just reminded me that mine is nearly up and need to renew it!!!

Would be nice if I had anywhere to fly to, but sure.

  8. If you’ll Irish only Knew how blessed you’ll are.

Can take up to 6 months in my country, with NO reason for it to not take more than a week or two.

  9. Woow in germany thry say its gonna take 5 months but we know its gonna take even longer to renew the passport

  10. The most efficient system in Ireland is the one that helps you leave! 🙂

Seriously though, fair play to the Passport Office, ordered my replacement on a Bank Holiday Monday, had it in my hand on Wednesday. Amazing!

  11. They are very good, praise where it’s due.

The granny was giving out to me to renew my passport back in the summer but I said I’d wait and did it in October, (didn’t need it till last weekend anyway). Applied on Saturday morning and it arrived on the Thursday (to NI).

  12. Ordered my son’s Canadian passport in July. Arrived last week after 4 phone calls to the passport office.

  13. So jealous. I live in Ireland for nearly 16 years but I am a Polish citizen. It took me 3 months to get an appointment in the embassy to apply for the passport. I had to take professional photos and it is only in person service so I had to travel to Dublin from Limerick. Then it took 5 months for it to arrive and I had to pick it up in person in Dublin. Thank god I don’t have to do it for another ten years but it really annoyed me. I wish Poland was the same and did everything online. Even in Poland is still in person. So backwards

  14. Had a great experience renewing passport, New passport for daughter on the other hand absolute nightmare. Started process in February finally got passport start of October

  15. Same with myself earlier this year. I went for the passport and the passport card together.

Had them within I think it was 5 working days.

  16. Unless you’re ordering a first time passport for a child. In which case it is the SLOWEST Government department

  17. Is this a piss take? This is a renewal. Renewals are not the problem.

The problem is new passports. Where is the “well oiled machine” now ? These posts are ridiculous.
