Germany burns a lot of coal when wind stops blowing. Map of yesterday – 745 CO2 gr per KWh

  1. I would have expected France to be the greeniest one. Looks like I’ve been fed too much propaganda on our nuclear reactors. It’s interesting to have my preconceived ideas destroyed by facts.

How are Sweden and Norway so green?

  2. In its latest report, the IPCC predicts a drop of 6% to 8% in average wind speeds across Europe by 2050. As wind speeds become increasingly inconstant, the cost of wind energy will become more unpredictable and its provision more unreliable

A drop in wind speed can have a major impact on wind turbines, which operate in a “wind speed window” between 14 and 90 km/h (9 and 56 mph).

Last year, the load factor — that is, the ratio of actual output to the theoretical maximum — dropped by 13% in Germany and the UK and by 15% to 16% in Ireland and the Czech Republic, Les Echos reports.

  3. And the entire planet, even countries that are not industrialized have to live with the consequences…

  4. From /r/EuropeanFederalists:

*Germany was projected to be a net exporter of nuclear energy, which could’ve powered half of europe, emissions free:*

*Instead it helped export its anti-nuclear policies to france, resulting in a lack of nuclear investment because of political gridlock by stupid french boomers trying to emulate germany.*

  5. On the other hand, stormy days can shove coal power out of the way so hard that it can’t duck away fast enough and the energy excess of the German grid threatens to overload the Czech grid…

  6. Yes qutting nuclear now was dumb, but it should be noted that germany is also a net exporter of energy.

At least a part of that coal burning wouldnt be necessary if the other european countries would produce enough renewable or nuclear energy themselves, which they dont.

  7. Mom said its my daily turn to post something about Germany bad and why the nuclear exit and the nuclear problem in France was just the greens fault.

  8. Three quarters of a kilo CO2 for a kWh sounds intuitively off, but I have very little knowledge of coal fired power. Can you link to the source?

  9. Well at the end of the day it’s a good Story. The green promised to stop nuclear and produce green energy.

At the end of the day you have to take a decision either your ideology or the climate change.

They decided to keep their promise and keep ideology – step out of nuclear.
