Tldr: I made an app to keep track of your gas, electricity, water… consumption. 100% free and offline, no strings attached.
The last few months I have been working on [Walewein](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quintax.walewein). It started as a small side project to help my father keep track of our consumption, but eventually grew so large that it might be helpful to others as well.
#What this is
Privacy is important: Walewein is **100% offline** and does not collect any user data. My goal is to help people, not to sell their personal information. You can use this application to keep track of your consumption and estimate what you’ll have to pay at the end of the month.
The app features different types of graphs to visualize the data and can read your values directly from your meter with text recognition.
Currently supported consumption types are:
– Gas (m^3)
– Water (m^3)
– Fireplace (kg)
– Electricity (kWh)
– Electricity with day/night tariffs (kWh)
#What this is ***not***
This is not an advertisement: I am not commercially involved whatsoever and have nothing to gain if you install my app.
It also isn’t a means to determine your exact consumption and the exact costs of your bill. Every supplier is different and it is impossible to take all of them into account. I try to approach your actual consumption as close a possible with the provided data, but I bear no responsibility if it does not match your supplier’s values.
#Feeeback
This is the first public release, so I am open to suggestions and feedback, but please keep in mind that it will take time to implement them, if they’re even viable in the first place. My exam period is approaching so development will slow down for a while. If you have an idea that would fit the app, feel free to comment in this thread or send me a DM.
I have tried to do my best to make the app available in both Dutch and French, but my French is not perfect. Don’t hesitate to comment in this thread or send me a DM if you found a mistake.

Sadly not for IOS. I was hyped to try it! Nevertheless, I’m sure people will like it.
Not disrespecting, just to be clear. It’s like an Excel with built-in graph options?
Can you add “Varia”? Could be nice to see gas(car) usage.
Omg thank you so much. Especially the read directly from meter function is fantastic!
I like the work you’ve put into this. Now that people are actually consiously monitoring their energy usage this might come in handy!
Personally I’ve been using an Excel for a few years now, which does basically the same.
Few suggestions:
– It only calculates the energy cost at this moment, right? It would be awesome if it would calculate the estimated total cost (including taxes, transportation fees, …) of your energy bill.
I’m aware that would require a whole lot more coding though 🙂 Or maybe add an “average tax / transportation fee”?
– Allow people to enter their monthly deposits so they’ll be able to calculate their extra cost / refund when they’ll get their final bill. This will only be usefull when my first suggestion is implemented though.
Again: I like the work you’ve put into this. I’m sure it’ll help a lot of people already!
Nice idea, I’ll definitely try that app once I’m back in Belgium.
First impression though, for a student making a small side project, I expected some bad design, but this app even looks good !
A few mistakes here and there in French :
– elektriciteit -> électricité
– du électricité -> de l’électricité
– du l’eau -> de l’eau
– du cheminée -> de la cheminée
– une graphique -> un graphique
What is the difference between your app and the online tool of [EnergieID](https://www.energieid.be/)?
EnergieID has integration with Fluvius for digital meters and is simple to use. It also makes suggestions to lower your usage.
I couldn’t give it a try as I am on my iOS device now but I will try on my Android. First of all, thanks for releasing this. As far as I’ve seen on screenshots, it looks great especially the OCR is a great feature. One idea for upcoming releases if it is not already implemented: Option to save data to personal cloud and access it from web also? So we can either use the app when on the phone or use the web app when on computer? Don’t know if it is something viable to do with personal cloud storage.
Looks nice. It would be interesting if I could insert power generation as well.
So when I insert an electricity meter reading, I should also be able to insert a solar power generation meter reading. That way I can tell how much electricity I actually used, and not just my net usage.
This looks very nice, OP! I track my usage with Home Assistant but I’d definitely give this a go if I didn’t.
Hi! Great initiative. Are you alone to develop? Do you have a Github project? I can’t access your website because of security issues (your certificate). I am a developer. I can help on my free time if you want 🙂 But if you want to stay alone I will understand. Kind regards
