East Wall protestors vow to block Port Tunnel three times a week until demands are met

  1. Is this not all a bit much for some men being put on mattresses in office cubicles, in an office that wasn’t being used? It’s not like it’s going to affect local housing issues.

    Have a read of this

The yokes using this as a platform for their nonsense are nuts. Going on about tampons in Leinster House etc.

I wonder if people will get out of their cars and drag them away like they do the Just Stop Oil people?

They blocked it on Monday and are due to do it again later.

I have no time for these people after they were shouting “out out out” at the men in the building and screaming all sorts at them. Surely we’re better than that.

  2. “will continue every Monday, Wednesday and Friday until further notice or until the (Direct) Provision centre is closed down”.

Where are they working that allows this kind of commitment?

  3. Those people need to calm down a small bit, we have barely any migrants in this country, they should go to Greece and see what a real migrant crisis looks like, bunch of fucking dopes and nothing else.

  4. Bunch of arseholes who will achieve nothing but to piss off ordinary working people.

If they want to protest against the governments handling of housing crisis that is fine knock yourselves out. But protesting against the housing (if you can call sleeping in an old run down office housing) of refugees is shameful and inexcusable.

I would happily exchange all these morons for refugees and asylum seekers in a heartbeat.

  5. I’m from East Wall, not currently living there but regularly visit family. We welcome the asylum seekers and refugees who seek nothing but a safe place to live away from some of the worst atrocities known to man. They’re more welcome than the narrowed minded people who protest

  6. It’s actually pretty shocking some of the comments here and the general disdain people in this subreddit have for people from places like East Wall. The general consensus is that they are all incapable of having any semblance of agency – their perspective counts for nothing.

They simply shouldn’t get to have a say in public discourse or even a right to an opinion according to seemingly the majority of people here.

  7. This is where bottomless dole gets us. Useless stupid people with nothing better to spend their time on.

Imagine having this much free time?

  8. Looks like a lot of the same crowd that were leading the same “yellow vest ireland” protests blocking the port tunnel previously

  9. To anyone claiming this group are local residents; they are most certainly copying the tactics of the ‘truckers’, the anti covid crowd, anti 5G, and the yellow vesters that preceded them. Totally organic protest.

  10. And what are those demands? Oh wait, it doesn’t matter. Their own rights aren’t under threat, they’re just a Karen Kommittee.

  11. If only the useless pricks had jobs to occupy them, rather than complaining about some poor people avoiding atrocities in their countries. The irony is if this happened in the refugees countries, the authorities would drive out over them.

  12. There’s East Wall residents on Twitter complaining about these protesters, and also inviting journalists to find out why they’ve all arrived on buses that have been parked up Alfie Byrne Road. I’m hearing similar from friends who live there.

Why don’t these protestors all go ‘back to where they came from’ and then we’ll see how many of those up in arms are actually living in East Wall and the surrounds…

  13. I bet you could ask every single one of those protestors “have you welcomed any homeless people into your own home?” and 100% of them would say it’s not their responsibility.

They are all just a bunch of right wing assholes

  14. Just a reminder that it’s a common tactic by those in power to paint any protestor as far right, racist.

I and many others are sick to the teeth of these economic migrants posing as refugees tearing up travel documents on entry, causing trouble where they’re accommodated (they were causing havoc in Kinnegad) sucking up resources and money that should be spent on the people here.

One lad interviewed in East Wall said he was working in the UK before coming here ffs!

Jesus lads, grow a bit of a spine. Ye complain about housing and then ye’r fine with the mass flow of these scroungers claiming they’re refugees when they’re not.

“build more houses” ye say. Where do you think the government are going to put these people? They’ll put them in any house they can find.

I’m fine with genuine refugees, though the government have shown their comtempt for Irish people through their support of the Ukrainians.

  15. ‘Nigel Murphy, one of the protesters named in the group’s statement, said during a demonstration last week that their anger is towards the government and not people housed in the building.’

Aye right, pull the other one.

How exactly is it anger against government if the government is taking swift action to try to deal with the crisis. Do they object to the principle of using vacant offices for emergency shelter? Do they object to the notion of things being done quickly in a crisis? Would they prefer to see this action taken to help the homeless?

Of course not. They just don’t like immigrants getting help and they don’t like it happening in their area. If they were in charge they’d rather see refugees dead than in Ireland.

  16. Racists and yahoos holding up the whole country. Facebook has a lot to answer for. (Also, it’s worrying how many people in this country just blindly believe and follow these kinds of groups).

  17. Wait till they realise that means big trucks are instead going to get routed along the roads around East Wall instead.

  18. Stand outside Dáil or outside your local government TDs office, pissing off people in traffic that means your a pissing people that actually might support your movement very weird movement….Eirigi have fucked up every protest so far in the last 4 years

  19. I’m from an inner city area close to east wall where the government have recently housed asylum seekers. The sentiment of locals here has been overwhelmingly negative. Blocking the port tunnel obviously will not bring about desired results however the disdain for working class people in these comments are pretty shocking even by the usual standard of this subreddit.

  20. Arrest them all so 🙂 I wonder how many just happen to not live in eastwall and are just concerned citizen who happen to be NP/Gript associated
