I wanted to share my story regarding this company and the way it was run by the owners back in 2020 since I never got any justice for anything that happened to me as I was too dumb back then and without a support system from anybody.
I had just come to Iceland to find a job and the first one I landed was at Mandi in February 2020. I had only been there for three months and was fired on the spot by the wife of the owner because of some misunderstanding that happened between my and my coworkers. Instead of addressing it in a mature way, she called me after I got off my shift just to say “I’m sick of arguing with my husband about keeping you there so you’re gonna help me out and do me a favor by quitting right now and you no longer come to work from now on.” I was speechless and back then I didn’t really know about Efling being there to protect my rights. Also I was young, dumb and scared to speak up. If it were today, I would have done something. I never got my orlof in my salaries, was never given payslips and I asked if I ever got paid any of that and I never got a reply from her, nor from Hlal. I was effectively scammed out of probably 500k ISK just by the fact I was told to quit on the spot while I was entitled to a notice period of at least two weeks or more (not sure how many months of notice I get after three consecutive months of work according to Efling) and I never got any justice for that to this day. I’m not sure if there’s anyone I can contact to get anything back since it’s been so long. Also, a close friend of mine also worked at this company and didn’t get her orlof until she asked for it and had to contact the company’s accountant to confirm that the orlof was not being added to her salary and simply skipped every time. Only then she got paid the orlof after asking for it. This company is utterly ridiculous and I hope everyone who had worked there eventually got their justice for their unfair treatment towards employees. There’s far more problems with these people than what this article talks about. There was a situation where the brother of the owner grabbed me by the arm as he got angry at me handling the food trays in a way he didn’t like and complained to the owner just to get me fired, which is what I wrote about earlier. Since I hated the way everyone treated me there, I didn’t really do much about the fact I got fired as I didn’t even want to bother any longer, but they still owe me a lot of money.
Borða reglulega á Mandi þar sem einu tveir staðirnir sem opna snemma í mínu nágreni (Skeifan) eru Mandi og Subway, get ekki beðið til 11:00 eða 11:30 til að taka hádegi eins og flestir matsölustaðir ætlast til.
Verður ekki borðað á Mandi framar. Kanski kominn tími til að verða duglegari að taka með sér nesti í vinnuna.
