Not sure where to start looking, any pointers will be helpful.
For example, Jón Steingrímsson’s writings on the Laki eruptions. Or, writings like [this right here,](https://www.stjornufraedi.is/solkerfid/jordin/eldgos-og-eldfjoll/oraefajokull/eldgosid-i-oraefajokli-1727/) Jón Þorláksson’s account of the Öræfajökull eruption.
Is there somewhere online where such things are compiled? Perhaps a national archive that is open access? Hoping for text based items, but scans of original documents are fine. Icelandic or English translation is fine.

If you get no response here, i would contact the university.
Þjóðarbókhlaðan which is the universities library has almost certainly something like that. Though the problem is that I do think you kind of have to actually go there to read it. This should be the website used to find out if it is there: https://lbs.leitir.is/discovery/search?vid=354ILC_LBS:07000 like can try but I don’t know. I’m a university student and I’ve been there before I didn’t find it difficult to navigate it and actually if you contacted them they might even be willing to do scans for you. It’s just I haven’t really used their service, so I can’t really say more then if anyone had it then it would be them since I believe they have like the largest collection of books, writings, magazines, historical documents in Iceland.
