Dublin tenants told to leave fire hazard building in less than two weeks

    I’m quite cyclical that anything beyond a slap on the wrist will happen.

    The fucking neck on this absolute fucking cunt. 27 people literally crammed into the building. 27 tenants, who share three toilets, two showers and one kitchen.
    And the biggest room is only 2 meters wide.

    He’s making between 13,500 to 16,200 a month from the tenants. almost 160-195,000 a year!!!!!

    And whats worse, the tenants want to stay because they have no other options…

    Edit: for context, here is the minimum standard for single occupancy prison cells in Ireland: these should be at least 7m2 in size, ‘with a minimum of 2m between walls’. And thats just a fucking recommendation….

  3. At the bare minimum, the landlord should:

    1. Get rid of the property and make it legal

    2. have to return every penny of rent

    Add a bit on top as that money isn’t just money, it’s making money elsewhere too.

    3. Pay a further fine that is actual punishment, not just returning illegal income. Maybe 100% of what was earned in total. You’d think twice about breaking rules if you knew you’d have to match the income.

    4. Maybe cover 2 weeks alt. Accomm for all tenants being moved out.

    Those who are pro-landlord are CONSTANTLY talking about how properly provided rental accommodation is required in the country and is net positive etc. without getting into the details, this should be something that upsets them more than anti-landlord and renters.

    So let’s see if enforcing standards really is important to them… or if they want to keep punishment low, just in case they get caught themselves one day…

  5. That landlord is a cunt and he should have to put them up in his house until they can find something else.

  7. How can we ensure the landlord gets what he deserves? Surely there are some legal repercussions for exploiting people in this way and not meeting minimum standards?
