  1. [Full guide from Irish revenue here](
    https://www.revenue.ie/en/vrt/guide-to-vrt/registration-of-imported-used-vehicles/importing-vehicle-from-gb.aspx)

    [VRT Calculator here](

Basically you will have to pay

    – VRT
    – Possibly VAT
    – Customs Duty

If this is a NI car, and depending on when the car was registered you may escape having to pay VAT. (that would be an exceptionally good thing)

VRT is worked out by revenue using the “book value” of the vehicle. Basically it’ll be a percentage of the estimated selling price of that car in Ireland.

Duty is based on the value of the vehicle.

VAT (if applicable) is paid on the landed cost (Cost inclusive of other charges) and charged at an additional 23%.

Basically it’s mostly not really worth importing or rereging from the UK since Brexit.
Only exception is if it’s a NI reg car and VAT exempt, or there is reduced VRT rates for plug in hybrids or fully electric vehicles.

  2. Classic.

Ah there’s a silly engine light on it.

It makes a weird noise idling.

I’m too stupid or sick to fix it. A genius like you would be grand.

Feeling like a real smart car man heading off, can’t wait to tell the lads, probably just needs spark plugs.

    Buyer beware my friend.

  3. This car has enough issues without paying over the odds for import etc. Just walk away there is better options out there.
