Will the new Nikola Tesla euro coins help Serbia and Croatia value their shared history?

  1. It looks like OP posted an AMP link. These should load faster, but AMP is controversial because of [concerns over privacy and the Open Web](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmputatorBot/comments/ehrq3z/why_did_i_build_amputatorbot).

  2. If it was done in a good faith and respectfully (f.e. with having Serb minority representatives or Serbia itself involved in this project) then it might. But as it is right now, it even does more damage.

By now Croatia have shown to be notoriously distasteful in this matter, with commonly accidentally forgetting to put his Serbian origin, or putting it in tiniest, most invisible asterixes.

One good example of this is the [official website of museum of Nikola’s birth home](https://mcnikolatesla.hr/nikola-tesla-homeland/) where only mention of Serbs both in his family history and in the history of the (majority Serb) region is in a sentence alluding that Serbs there were never really Serbs but actually brainwashed Vlachs (?!?!). Also they have a nice history section of his homeland region, but conveniently forgot to mention one of the biggest historical events there, it being the genocide of Serbs, Jews, and among others, Nikola’s relatives.

Just imagine Germany having an Einstein museum where they conveniently forget to mention he was a Jew, that Holocaust happened, and even worse, slip a sentence saying that Jews were actually never there, they were some random brainwashed Vlachs.

There were multiple examples like this throughout the years and I’m afraid the coin is done in similar mood.

Saying this as a Serb from the same region as Nikola.

edit: downvoters can you please provide your perspective and what’s wrong here, thanks

  3. Born by Serbian parents in Croatia, part of the Austrian Empire, soon to be known as part of the Kingdom of Hungary within Austria-Hungary.

I’d say he is American, by choice.

  4. First of all, what shared history?

Croatia and Serbia shared only 65 years together out of 1200+ years of their existence. This obsession with Yugoslavia got to stop already, history didn’t start with 1918.

As for Tesla, he is undeniably an ethnic Serb born in Croatia, where he was also raised and made his first engineering breakthroughs. How much time did he spent in Serbia? Literally just one day of his life.

On the other hand, Serbs are having trouble even with the fact of Tesla being born in Kingdom of Croatia within Habsburg monarchy.

That’s why I’m despite all of elements that tie Tesla with Croatia, still not satisfied with putting him on a coin.

This just puts another unnecessary incentive to talk about war and there are many other world renowned, deserving ethnic Croats that could’ve been put there.

Having said all of that, relations between Serbs and Croats are not even bad, despite what foreigners think. Thousands of Serbs work and spend holidays in Croatia, and Croats also go for business and nightlife in Serbia.

Only thing that is still holding even friendlier relations down is Serbian lack of education and their semi-dictatorship, semi-mafia run state. Regular people are doing just fine with each other.
