Sweden and Finland already are in NATO.
They have NATO-standard armies with NATO inter-operability and obviously no country that would get off its ass if Russia attacked Latvia or Romania would sit it out if it was Sweden or Finland. The only thing keeping them out of being in NATO for all remotely practical purposes was their own stance of neutrality, the moment they dropped it they were in NATO. Nobody gives a shit if some document somewhere has the watermelon seller’s signature on it.

It’s really a dilemma whether such an option is beneficial for us collectively or not.
On one hand, it would bring the country right next to Russia into NATO and seriously help to secure the security of the Baltics, while Sweden can help otherwise even outside NATO. On the other hand however, Finland joining before Sweden could mean that there is less pressure on Turkey to eventually ratify the Swedish accession.
They’re already in by proxy. If they are attacked, UK goes in due to the bilateral defence agreement and once UK goes in that means a NATO country is there and can call on other NATO nations for support.
They should, and we should drop our request to enter Nato in solidarity with Finland. And say “Ok, so Turkey is going to be a bitch towards us, we wanted to be part of this but these demands are too much and we will never be able to meet them”
Well be surrounded by Nato. We can still participate as we have done until now with joint exercise.
Show the world how its fucking done. Be kind to each other, Finland is right next to warmongering Russia, every Swede understands their desire to join Nato. Sad we couldnt have this moment together with you Finland but you go, well be fine.
I mean, imagine russia trying an invasion by sea. They bearly could go through with a landbased one on flat terrain.

Sweden can wait til the next TR gov. takes over. When Finland joins, the Baltics officially become Lake NATO, and Sweden will border only NATO nations. So yeah Finland is more important here.
