Crete becomes part of Greece in 1913, after it had earlier obtained independence from the Ottoman Empire, following the First Balkan War. The largest and most populous of the Greek islands, it’s known for it’s mountains, heritage sites and rich culture.

That’s Cyprus
Fun or not so fun fact. Crete was supposed to have a vote 100 years later (2013) about staying in Greece or not.
Never happened though.
After Greece became part of Crete, it failed to catch up.
Who are the figures in the first pic? The one behind Crete looks like queen Victoria
We are talking about Crete and not Cyprus
The largest of the Greek islands is Cyprus (note: the island is Greek, not part of Greece, different things)
Shame. They should’ve kept it
If you Greeks have a public holiday for every island, you guys are very lucky
