Share of illegal constructions in Italian regions

  1. During my Erasmis, I worked for some time as a construction worker in one of the red regions. Illegally of course. That building had probably been under construction for years before me, and I don’t think they ever finished it. It was destroyed a few years after I left.

I always wondered what kind of scam it was. Money laundering?

Anyway, people often think of violent crimes and pressures when they think of organized crime in Italy, but my experience is that they were well integrated in society and just don’t need the violence.

  2. God, centre with 17% is very bad and it still looks great compared to 50% in south Italy.

Does state institutions actually exist their? Actually what is state of mind in Italy about this? Did everyone else just give up to change anything down their? Only Mussolini accomplished to change something as it seems, and then after fall of fascism everything continued to be as always.

  3. Why is there so much illegal construction in the south vs north? Why can’t the arthritis
    Authorities handle it properly?

  4. # Sorry, but WTF of a map is this.

This is not how you do colour-scales AT ALL. The legend should only show what number-intervall a certain colour corresponds to. In a proper gradient, not arbitary jumping from colour to colour. The actual values should be on the map. You instead color a region in an arbitary color and then put the percentage in the legend, seriosly what is this?

You show regions, but your dataset only gives a single value for multiple regions, which are arbitary grouped together by cardinal direction?

“Percentage of illegal construcion” means what exactly? Percent of land use, percent of number of buildungs, percentage of parcels with illegal construction?

Also no sources and not even a date from when the data is from. Is it from 2022, 2020 or from 1980? Who knows.

**This map is meaningless at best and intentionally misleading at worst.**
