So, before I moved to Belgium from the UK, I supported the UK-based [Schistosomiasis Control Initiative](https://schistosomiasiscontrolinitiative.org/). It’s one of the charities that GiveWell recommend as *saving/improving the most lives per dollar*. It focuses on treating children for an extremely nasty parasitic disease that can otherwise cause brain damage and kidney failure.
I’ve just now discovered that the way to support them while getting Belgian tax relief for the donation is to do so via the King Baudouin Foundation (which is Belgian, as if you couldn’t guess from the name). The information on how to do so is [***here***](https://www.eabelgium.org/donate)*******.
There are other extremely effective charities that you can support in the same way, including GiveDirectly, which transfers small grants of money directly to people who are in the worst poverty, and the Malaria Consortium which focuses on malaria prevention. Again, information on how to do that is [***here***](https://www.eabelgium.org/donate)***.***
* The account number there can be verified as being the same as the one [on the King Baudouin Foundation website](https://www.kbs-frb.be/en/contact). The KBF takes a 5% fee for admin, but this is still a lot less than the tax rebate. I have checked with the KBF; they will get your address etc from the bank, so they can send your tax certificate — ***you don’t need to register*** or do anything but set up a monthly bank transfer to them with the charity info in the “structured message”.

That’s useful information, thank you.
There’s a whole load of stuff said by the “Effective Altruism” movement; much of which I think is great, some of which I am skeptical of. *This post isn’t trying to convince you to accept any or all of that*; it’s mainly just for Belgian residents who would like to give to an extremely effective charity and would also like not to pay tax on their donations.
Yes he had a donation fund during the 1st wave of covid to for machines for hospitals/ masks etc. So well worth looking into.
