Festival of Brexit chief claims £120m event was ‘success’ despite missing visitor target

  1. Brexit devotees could literally have their legs removed because of Brexit and say it was a good idea and went to plan.

  2. I couldn’t imagine anything more sad an jingoistic than going to this charade.

What a waste of everyones time, effort, and money.

  3. >The festival boss said the 66 million target was never intended to comprise in-person visitors.

What was the figure supposed to represent then?

  4. *Sir, the festival was a failure.*

**Well can we call it a success anyway? I mean, will anybody check?**

    *No, sir.*

**Then it was a success, dammit!**

  5. I went to one of these events and really enjoyed it.

    NOW HEAR ME OUT!

In Liverpool they had a scale model of the solar system- the Sun was near the train station, little tiny Mercury right next to it, Venus and Earth a few more steps away.
We walked out as far as Saturn (a few Km from where we started) and used the app’s AR functions to look at man made satellites, asteroid fields etc. on the way.

The kids loved it, we all learned a lot.

Imagine my horror* when I realised it was part of the great Brexit Festival of Britain

*Actually I wasn’t arsed, may as well get something out of it

  6. The worst part of all of this is, some of the exhibits that are chosen sound really great and pretty much has sweet FA to do with Brexit.

From the sounds of it, it’s a celebration of British art and sciences with installations all around the country.

It had the ability to be something really great and inspiring but dear Theresa went and called it Festival of Brexit.

She conflated our culture with the single most divisive vote that has been taken in this country because she thought it’d help peddle that shit show to the masses. Instead all it does is make at least 50% of the population have an inherent dislike for what is on offer and I can’t imagine the remaining 50% are so jingoistic that they’d feel the need to go out to a festival which on the surface appears to be about a vote taken 6 years ago.

  7. They ended up obfuscating the purpose of it so much that I suspect most of the attendees were unaware of what the event was actually about

  8. I think it’s finally dawning on these politicians that in the analls of British history Suez will no longer be that final sign of Britain’s decline on the international stage but a stepping stone. It will be the self imposed disaster that was Brexit that was the final nail. Boris had a chance to be remembered for a renegotiation and orderly withdrawal but no, he’ll be remembered for two absolute and collosal fuck ups, as will those be that backed him.

  9. Weston-super-Mare here. “See Monster” was an oil rig repurposed as an attraction, with trees planted on it and whatever because sustainability or something. It was over budget, 2 months late and the oil rig itself was shipped in from Europe. A fitting tribute to Brexit…

  10. It was mostly a series of art installations that would have got a similar number of visitors had it not been part of the Festival of Brexit. It was not a success because people wanted to celebrate Brexit in any way, it was a ‘success’ because people wanted to see some art. An actual celebration of Brexit would have been even more disappointing.

  11. If it wasn’t for Reddit, I’d have assumed that the “Festival of Brexit” had been scraped completely. I can’t recall seeing any ads or mentions of the Unboxed installations as they rebranded it. No wonder the visitor target was missed as there was no promotion at all of the event.
