Hello everyone!

Me and my sister-in-law are making a Spotify playlist and trying to put 1 song from each country in the world. I’m starting with european countries (aside from the ones I already knew), and would really appreciate your help!

**What are we looking for?**

Preferably a song not in English, and that really captures the feeling of your country’s music.

**What countries are already in the playlist?**

So far we have:

* Faroe Islands

* Germany

* Japan

* Mexico

* Norway

* Pakistan

* Portugal

* San marino

Thank you and we hope you can contribute to this project 🙂

Edit: a link to the playlist, since I had a few requests: [Spotify – All around the world ](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7n4kZc0adGRwSm0Jf7UFlG?si=9oz_cIZHRFCt9n9scExOVA&utm_source=copy-link).
I hope to build it in the next few weeks! The ones I have already are ones I knew before the idea.

  1. You are looking a song that captures the melancholy. I saw few good candidates already. Without knowing the genre you are looking for I give you some examples. All in finnish as you wanted.

    Yö – Joutsenlaulu

    Kotiteollisuus – Lemminkäisen laulu

    Apulanta – Jumala

    Leevi and the leavings- joulukertomus

    Tapio Rautavaara- Kulkuriveljeni Jan

    Irwing goodman – viimeinen laulu

    Juice Leskinen – kaksoiselämää

    Mikko Alatalo – ihmisen ikävä toisen luo

    Just something that came to my mind immediatelly. No female singers so one more.

    Anneli Saaristo- Evakon laulu

  2. I think [Eppu Normaali – Tuhansien Murheellisten Laulujen Maa](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=1urbdnDhfFQ&feature=share) or [Leevi and the Leavings – Pohjois Karjala](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=RG7ZijbR0oU&feature=share) are the correct answers, but I’d like to insert some other options too 🙂

    Definitely [Egotrippi -Matkustaja](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=H0QOTgNy6NE&feature=share), that song is a masterpiece.
    Something CMX… I don’t know, [CMX – Meidän Syntimme](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=N3y_y-nYfZI&feature=share) maybe?
    [Samuli Putro – Tavalliset Hautajaiset](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=etN7cm-7m_A&feature=share) certainly captures that Finnish low key mentality. The lyrics do anyways…
    Didn’t see anyone suggest any Hector, that has to be mentioned! I’d go with [Hector – Lumi Teki Enkelin Eteiseen](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=MRkfkqu08Vk&feature=share).
    And obviously PMMP. Which song though? A lot of them *have* that Finnish melancholy, but which one captures it especially? Meh. Just go with [PMMP – Matkalaulu](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=jd2q0Rh9qV0&feature=share) because it’s awesome.

    And to people saying Ievan Polkka. I know it’s well known and liked (I like it too), but does it capture the feeling of Finnish music?

  3. Kingston Wall!

    I would suggest the song “I’m the king, I’m the sun”, but that’s just my preference. This is hands down the best band this country has ever seen, in my opinion.

  4. Suggestions from different genres and time periods

    Reiviluola – Haloo Helsinki

    Pimeä tie, mukavaa matkaa – Leevi and the leavings

    Tänä yönä – Sig

    Kaunis päivä – Anna Puu

    Tyhjää – Kaseva

    Paratiisi – Rauli Badding Somerjoki

    Nina, olen palasina – Risto

    Ai ai ai – Pave Maijanen

    Telepatiaa – J. Karjalainen

    Duran Duran – Jenni Vartiainen

    Tie – Chisu

    All of these artists have other great songs too. These are just some that came to my mind.

    Also these are just _good_ pop&rock songs, if your goal is to find a song that somehow represents the country in a deeper way, there are many better recommendations here.

  5. Ismo Alanko: Kun Suomi putos puusta

    Eppu Normaali: Tuhansien murheellisten laulujen maa

    The latter especially is kind of a masterpiece: a ridiculously dark story, meant as a parody of the stereotypical Finnish melancholy, yet it became a massive hit (“The land of a thousand sad songs”)
