Lol, of course he is. Rich cunts like him don’t use the NHS that they are trying to privatise.
I mean after what his party has done to the NHS there’s not a non-private Dr that wouldn’t suggest he has a pineapple suppository or hot tar enema.
Are we meant to be surprised? His wife is a billionaire.
I went private because I didn’t want to wait a year and a half for a 30 minute surgery
Consultation: £50
Surgery: £637 (would have been 350 if it wasn’t as bad), this included bandages and infinite consultations until I was recovered, You also got a refund if the surgery failed.
This mf getting a check-up costs half of a minor surgery.
Private healthcare is a trip-skip that only the rich can afford, I was 14 when we did this, had to split the bill with my already struggling mum. The NHS surgery also failed for a friend who had waited the year+ and in that year it had become infected and could have killed him if it spread.
He has to really, otherwise he might risk accidentally running into a working class person.
what do you expect? all MPs have private health care. Next headline
“Sunak does not take the bus or tube”
I mean normal working class people sometimes invest in private health care. I know a few people who use private health care when they can’t be bothered to go through NHS
That’s the normal fee for a private GP , and yes of course he can afford it , rich + 100k + salary , can any one here say they wouldn’t do that option if you had the money . Its really not a shocking headline at all . I guess it’s just another attempt at destabilising current GOV . It’s getting a little stupid to be honest , I’m sure all the labour MPs all use the NHS in solidarity with public , can you imagine Kier Starmer with his millions waiting 4 months for a GP, I don’t think so .
Shock horror: man who can afford to pay for something does
Why is this regarded as “news”?
Man has private health cover.
And?
This guy’s next post is the one where he complains about rich people clogging up the NHS instead of paying for treatment themselves…
Lmao if I had that money I’d be going private, how is this news?
Why is this a story?
Anyway, he’s doing his bit to relieve pressure on the NHS so I don’t even think there’s a negative aspect to this.
The Guardian would also shit on him if he was using up NHS resources while worth hundreds of millions. It would be the same for Starmer if it was the Sun, if an outlet hates you there’s no winning.
I have private health care and I’m not a 100k+ earner either. Big deal.
I mean, so do I?
I really hate tories but this is just kind of a pointless statement.
I have used private GPs before to avoid waits. Will I get banned from this sub?
so? Theres not a single british person who wouldnt go private if they could afford it. Sure we love and revere the NHS, but we can all see its failings
So not only is he, as a top rate tax payer, subsiding everyone else’s GP appointments (particularly anyone who earns less than about 36k from memory – though it’s probably higher with the recent inflation spike), he’s also taking himself out of the queue to see a GP, thereby freeing a space for someone else, by paying AGAIN to to see a GP privately. Damn that man, clearly he is the spawn of satan.
I will probably get downvoted, but I believe that the coexistence of public and private heathcare can be beneficial if implemented correctly. My family is in EU country, and they use a mix of private and public services for years. It’s not entitlement as the cost is affordable for many.
Example: My sister found a lump on her breast and consulted her gynaecologist (that’s normal as you dont have a referral to see one). She was referred by the gynaecologiest for several blood tests, scans, etc. It would take much longer for some of the examinations to be completed on the equivalent of NHS, so she went with a list of those tests to private practice and was able to have them done quicker. The cost wasn’t unaffordable for her (she’s on maternity and her husband is working full time). With the results, she was able to go to the oncologist that she was referred to by the gynaecologist. The oncologist was public but accepted the results of private tests, which is a norm. She had a biopsy and operation plus aftercare in public hospital, but the reconstruction will be done privately (that is expensive so family will help with cost).
The fact is that many people are doing it, and it’s beneficial for public healthcare and those that cannot afford private examination as the waiting lists are shorter. The public healthcare professionals are accepting test results from private practices, and clinicians from private practices can refer people to public healthcare if they need more complicated support like my sister did.
In the UK, there are already multiple private practices with physios, OTs, podiatrists, etc. The problem is often lack of communication between private and public sector which should be addressed. Also, if someone can afford to pay for tests privately, why not provide them with the choice as long as the public sector is still available for them?
Of course he does. If you had millions you wouldn’t wait 7 days to see your GP either. You’d go private.
So?
All of you acting like if you had the money you wouldn’t do the exact same thing.
This is the same type of non-story like the one about his pool. Rich man spends like he’s a rich man more news at 10. I dont like the tories but these weird character assassinations are a weird stretch. Starmer is probably in a similar boat with private medical care, as I can imagine are a lot of MPs.
Does the Defence Minister have to be a member of the armed forces?
Does the Work and Pensions Minister have to be in receipt of state benefits?
You can take this crap to the nth degree.
Typical Guardian politics of envy bullshit.
Yeah it’s just a BUPA surgery. You’re usually covered on the insurance rather than necessarily needing to pay £250. He is the PM though, I at least expect our unelected leaders to be healthy.
So a guy with a lot of money is choosing to go private and free up space in the NHS.
Why is this considered ‘news’? I didn’t think the prick would be sitting in A&E with an unplumbed tap stuck on his big toe á la The Beano. It’s like when DePfeffel had covid and cracked on that he was “looked after by wonderful nhs nurses” like he didn’t have an elite and expensive medical team monitoring his every twitch 24-7 (being the PM) and lied about it (being Boris fucking Johnson)
What’s the next big shocking revelation- his kids go to private school, that the family have more than one reasonably priced hatchback or he turns the thermostat up to 18°c *before* October 1st?
If there’s one thing that NEEDS to end yesterday it is the blatant gravy train that is the House Of Commons and Lords.
These useless politicians are given £84K+ per year and financial perks and as of this week the ability to spend your money on personal festive parties – seriously!
Vote them out!
If i was a multi millionaire then i would be as well. Think of it the other way, if Doris needs to go the GP then she wont be denied because Rishi rang 2 minutes earlier to the surgery.
In other news rich people have nice cars bigger houses and eat better food.
People honestly expect the pm to phone his local gp?
The security alone for that would be horrendous.
I mean, his is stupid rich. I’d be surprised if he was registered at his local
I’m a few paragraphs in and don’t see point of this article 🤷♂️
The rights and wrongs of private healthcare aside, should a national newspaper really be publishing where any individual has registered with a GP?
Whats the point on this? “Rich people use private medical practice” ? Thats not news, thats facts and everyone knows it.
If you were right, wouldn’t you use private GP practice? I sure the fuck would. Whats the problem with that?
This is a bit of a hornets nest to start poking at
I suspect more than a third of all MP’s are the same
How foolish to waste his money, I wouldn’t pay £2.50 for an appointment as most gp,s are useless
He’s rich. What do you expect. Ridiculous excuse of an article.
If we banned private medical treatment, then rich people and people in power would be forced to invest in the NHS, as that would be the only way to get treatment equivalent to what they are getting with private.
Otherwise they simply won’t care.
Rich Tory has private health…shocker.
It should be a condition of the job that all MP’s (and their families) only use state schools and the NHS. Then we’d see some improvements.
Is this really surprising considering he doesn’t know how much a loaf of bread or a pint of milk costs?
The private system just utilise the resources of the NHS, at the cost of the people waiting there turn to use it freely.
A friend of mine was waiting for an op, decided to pay thinking he’d be sent somewhere else in the country, ends up in the same hospital but in a different ward with all the things you can think off to make it comfortable, ps5, streaming tv, good food, on the spot care etc.
Essentially moved up the queue ahead of some other poor sod waiting for an op.
Its already a 2-tier system, we just don’t know it yet. We’re living in a segregated wealth system, and you’re not invited unless you’re rich.
Is this news now? I can’t say I’m shocked at the head of one of the largest economies in the world using private healthcare.. In fact, it’s like the writer has discovered the industry exists for the first time. I’d have thought it’s a good thing, saves the NHS 1 patient.
Does Keir Starmer use the NHS? Not trying to be inflammatory, I’m just curious.
